Tis summer and the roar of the lawnmower is heard throughout the land. Here are three brief lawn-care tips from Scotts, the well known manufacturer of lawn chemicals, grass seeds, and related products.
1) ?“Longer is Better?”
Many people cut their grass too short. Optimal length for a healthy lawn is around three inches. This helps shade out weeds, keeps the roots cooler and provides enough grass leaf to encourage deeper root growth.
2) ?“Water Right?”
A typical lawn only needs about one inch of water a week. If you?’re allowed to use a sprinkler or irrigation system, water twice at week applying 1/2 inch of water each session. Mother Nature easily takes care of this problem for us.
Frequent light watering does more harm than good because it encourages shallow root growth. Be sure that the water is not being wasted on sidewalks, driveways, or the patio.
3) ?“Dormant is Okay?”
Don?’t panic if there?’s a drought. A lawn can go brown and dormant for as long as 8 weeks. When the drought is over, apply a summer fertilizer and repair damaged areas.
