Construction on the intersection at Cherokee Street and Speer Boulevard has recently been completed with funds from the city's 1998 neighborhood bond issue. This project was included in the bond issue as a result of lobbying by the Golden Triangle Neighborhood Association (GTNA).
The original configuration of the intersection had been the site of several serious auto accidents. The new design requires that cars slow down when turning off of Speer. Cherokee will remain a one-way street, except for the short section from 10th Avenue to Speer Boulevard. However GTNA will continue to lobby the city for a return to two-way traffic on this street and its paired street, Delaware.
