The results of the resident survey the Good Neighbor Committee administered in April are in and all residents should have received a copy of the findings. The findings are a snapshot of opinions that give the GTNA board and its committees an idea of how residents feel about key issues that affect them. Some of the highlights from this year's survey include:
?· Residents said they primarily moved to the Golden Triangle because of its location relative to downtown, Cherry Creek, the bike path, and other facilities and amenities. They did not move here because of the intrinsic qualities of the neighborhood (e.g., friendly people, quiet area, low crime).
?· Among residents' concerns about the neighborhood are (1) the amount of construction, primarily residential construction that they see as being too dense; (2) a lack of services, particularly a food market and coffee shop; (3) too many homeless people, and (4) too much noise from various sources. Each of these concerns was mentioned by 10 percent or more survey respondents.
?· Majorities of respondents rated the overall quality of the neighborhood as a positive aspect of living in the Golden Triangle and agreed that the GT is a friendly and safe place to live. They do not, however, appear to know how they can have input into events and decisions affecting them, suggesting the need for more effective communication between residents and the GTNA.
?· This year's survey included two special questions about building height and how to address the problem of dog waste. Both issues received numerous comments from respondents. Regarding building height, a majority of respondents favored limiting building height to mid-rise buildings (75-100 feet), arguing that smaller buildings create a more friendly and intimate neighborhood. Respondents' ideas for dealing with dog waste were primarily to (1) provide more waste containers on the street, (2) post signs asking dog owners to pick up the waste, and (3) provide plastic bags I convenient locations as a convenience to dog owners.
