The group which is spearheading the redevelopment of Sunken Gardens Park has received a preservation initiative grant from the Colorado State Historical Fund for $55,000. The grant monies will fund an historic cultural landscape assessment of the park and the West High School grounds that face the park. The study of the site will identify, inventory, analyze, and document the history of this area. This base of information will help guide the management and future plans for Sunken Gardens Park. The grant involves a $5000 cash match by the various community groups who are participating in the project. GRNA has pledged $1000 of this amount from funds raised at this year's Blues and Bones Festival.
After the historic cultural landscape assessment is completed, the next step will be to develop a conceptual plan for the park and potentially for some of the adjacent West High grounds. It is an exciting project which will have a positive impact on our neighborhood. To get involved call the GTNA office at 303-572-0506.
