Golden Triangle Neighborhood Assoc.

NEW BOARD MEMBER

Oct 11, 2000

Clare Hooper, a new board member this year, is truly a Golden Triangle
pioneer. She moved into the neighborhood in 1994 after being one of the
first people to purchase when the Cadillac Lofts became available for
presale. Though the surrounding area looked very different at that time
with empty buildings and unkempt properties, though the Realtor wasn?’t
sure if the chalk outlines of the units were accurate, Clare had a good
gut feeling about the building and put down money on her first visit.
At the time Clare was nursing operations manager of Denver Cares,
located a block down the street. She still commutes on foot, now to
Denver Health where she is on a psychiatric consultation team. Her
daily walks to work through the alleys and byways of the neighborhood
are a constant source of entertainment.
Experiencing the neighborhood as a pedestrian is an important aspect of
living in the Golden Triangle for Clare. She walks to do her banking at
the Denver Municipal Federal Credit Union and to serve as a volunteer
(for 17 years) at the Denver Art Museum. From her vantage point on
foot, Clare says she is seeing the beginning of a community. For
example, she might stroll in to see the fibre art at Bayeux Gallery,
then stop in at the Fine Dining Company to chat with the owner.
Clare is co-chairman of the Good Neighbor committee, a group which, she
feels, has brought important changes to the Golden Triangle Neighborhood
Association. She credits board member Mickey Zeppelin with the vision
to recognize the need for the committee, which addresses quality of life
issues and provides a voice for residents. For example, the committee
reviews liquor license applications and makes a recommendation to the
board on their viability. She encourages all GTNA members to get
involved in the committee.
Another change is that six years ago there were no residents on the
board; now there are ten.
Clare Hooper brings to the board of directors her passion for this
neighborhood, which is an important part of her life. That passion
serves the board well.
