GRANITE PARK ASSOCIATION
December 5, 2006
Thank you very much for participating in our campaign to make Granite Park a safer place to live.
As a result of our first meeting at the Thayer Library we have had a marked increase in police patrols and we have had a number of unmarked surveillance teams in the driveways of participating residents.
Drug dealing is, and should be, our first concern.
If we could all be aware of unfamiliar cars stopped in front of our homes or neighbors homes, we would be off to a good start.
Remember: when we see suspicious activity between two cars we should jot down the license plate number, make note of the make, model and color of the car and call it in to the police station, the main number is 781-843-1212.
Another tactic would be to go out for a walk. This would be beneficial in two ways, first you would discourage dealers from the area and second you would be healthier!
As a result of our first effort, the petition, we were granted a meeting with the Traffic Advisory Safety Commission.
The TASC panel met with three representatives of the GPA after reading the petition. They were willing to listen to our concerns and were open to hearing our ideas on re-routing traffic to Brooks Drive and slowing down the cars at intersections.
They suggested a traffic count be done before and after the West St apartment complex opens to see how Granite Park is impacted. Another idea was to place ?‘CHILDREN?’ signs at appropriate locations.
The retimeing of the traffic lights at Five Corners and signage at Brooks Drive/Forbes Rd was referred to the State for consideration.
Monday night, December 4th, the Selectmen heard the recommendations of TASC and appeared ready to approve certain signage. We will stay in communication with TASC and the Selectmen and should have their final decision by the next meeting of the GPA. That meeting will be at 7:00 on January 9th at the Thayer Library. Looking forward to seeing you there.
