THE SOUNDS
For eight years, the GNW Sounds have always performed at the Hot Chocolate Social, the Annual Meeting in May and on Independence Day for the GNW Community. Recently, in 2002 and 2003, the Sounds also performed at the Fiesta BarBQ Cook-Off.
But what do they do the rest of the time? The GNW Sounds bring music to the area shut-ins and retired folks in places like Timberhill Villa, Silver Creek Manor, The Waterfords on Huebner and Thousand Oaks, Kingsley Place on Floyd Curl and Manor Care on Wurzbach just to mention a few.
The GNW Sounds have also performed at San Francesco Di Paola Spaghetti Dinners near Santa Rosa Street; for the local chapter of the Sons of Italy; the Irish Cultural Society?’s Heritage Day; the Harp & Shamrock Society Celebration of Saint Patrick?’s Day on the Riverwalk; the Texas Folklife Festival; the San Antonio Botanical Garden Fall and Spring Festivals; the San Antonio Public Library on Soledad Street special celebrations, the Borders Cafe and Bookstore on I-10, and the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in the Ingram Festival Mall.
Rehearsals will begin on Friday, October 17th at 7 PM at 4914 Timber Wind for Veterans Day Concerts at the Waterford Retirement Home on Thousand Oaks and at the Patriot Heights Retirement Home just off Floyd Curl. Those performances will take place on Sunday, November 9th. In addition, Keith Kolars of 8702 Timber Point and new member Bill Bundrock of 8514 Timberwilde Drive will be practicing TAPS on the trumpet for the GNW Veterans Day, the Sounds will begin rehearsing Christmas Carols on November 14th at 7PM for the Hot Chocolate Social on December 11th.
