GOALS, PRESENT AND FUTURE
The Greater Englewood Neighborhood Association (Gena) has many projects and projected projects in the works.
Presently:
Gena has a large WELCOME SIGN at the Beach Road/Emerson Street/Spring Glenn area entrance. The sign is surrounded by flowers. Gena volunteers also maintain the flowers in the triangular road divider and keep this location free of litter. Many positive remarks are received by Gena in regards to this beautification project.
A NEW FLOWER LOCATION is at the intersection of Spring Park Road and Emerson Street. Once again, Gena volunteers provide the care at this busy entrance.
Gena schedules CLEAN UP DAYS, as volunteers pick up litter and garbage along our roadways. On occasions, Gena members have helped Englewood businesses by cleaning around their place of business and on one occasion have pressure washed buildings and signs. During clean up days, public street signs are washed and signs needing repair or replacement are reported to the proper city departments.
Gena looks forward to a continuing relationship with ADOPT A ROAD, JAXPRIDE AND GREEN UP, CLEAN UP. This relationship has provided our community with expert help and supplies in its endeavor to keep Englewood clean.
Trips are made by Gena members through Englewood for the purpose of REPORTING DISCARDED TIRES AND APPLIANCES FOR PICKUP.
Crime facts and law enforcement services are provided by an Officer from the JACKSONVILLE SHERIFF?’S OFFICE. Gena members have been instructed and informed by the Officers sent to their meetings. Gena is also a subscriber to Neighborhood Watch.
Gena advocated for the CUBA HUNTER PARK which should be on line within a few months. This park is sorely needed by the Englewood
Community. This park will be complete with a senior community building, picnic areas, walk paths/nature trails, ball fields and playgrounds for children. This park was made available for purchase by the Hunter Family and named after a family member.
Future:
One projected project is the BEAUTIFICATION OF ENGLEWOOD CIRCLE at the intersection of Spring Park Road and Spring Glen Road. Gena plans to apply for a matching grant to brick the circle. Cut outs will provide for flowers and trees. A fountain and perhaps a flag pole will be included. Gena?’s budgeted goal is $3,000 for a matching grant. Gena has reached it?’s $3,000 goal and will proceed as soon as the road construction is complete.
Gena?’s "THEME" (a plan of revitalization) has seen a realization in the city?’s "TOWN SQUARE CONCEPT". The upper part of Gena?’s business boundaries on Spring Park Road will benefit. Gena will request this section of Englewood be included in the Town Square Plan. Our "concept" or " theme" will be antique stores and supporting services, such as upholstery, cafes and ice cream shops. Gena expects to enhance the looks and viability of this stretch of roadway with this plan. Some elements are already in place for this plan, such as upholstery shops. Town Square will provide a means, for business conversion and relocation to this area. Beautification of Spring Park Road will be the result along with new jobs.
At the western end of Spring Glenn Road is a parcel of land in the city?’s park system. Gena proposes this land, CHEROKEE PARK be developed as a passive park. This includes walk paths and bike paths.
Gena will be requesting the city to bring the western half mile of SPRING GLENN ROAD up to speed by providing a road median, sidewalks and bike paths. This to connect Englewood Circle and Cherokee Park.
Gena appreciates the support of South Metro, Jaxpride, Inc., City of Jacksonville, Welcome Food Stores, Ace Hardware, The Phillips Co., Quizno?’s and other businesses in our area. We also ask for your input and support.
