It has been several months since our last Neighborhood Association meeting but we are posting signs for the upcoming June 18th. General meeting at Englewood Senior High School, Barnes Road, at 7:00pm. in the Media Center(AKA. The library)
Our main agenda item is a briefing from a representative of the City's Emergency preparedness Division about Hurricanes and how to go about preparation as residents in our area.
Unfortunately, there is an attitude among most of Jacksonville citizens that because we have been lucky we have dodged the bullet since Dora in 1964 so we don't need to be concerned.
Remember that Dora was a category #1 storm with a favorable tide/time strike time. The combination of several natural factors lessened the effects during and after the storm. But it was no picnic and we should never underestimate what the next one will bring.
The latest (2002)charts show that a large part of GHANA's area is subject to flooding in a category # 3 storm but tidal conditions plus abnormal rainfall could change that for the worst. Please come to listen and ask your particular questions so as to be prepared.
