The Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association

1st ever "Christmas in Strathmore" Event was a great success!

Feb 07, 2006

The first-ever "Christmas in Strathmore" event coordinated by the Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association was a wonderful day. The weather was perfect and it was great to have fun with so many friends and neighbors during the winter. There were carriage rides, fun in the snow, and Christmas caroling throughout the afternoon. It was nice to have some of our elected officials in attendance, like Mayor Driscoll, Councilor Van Robinson, and Councilor-elect Ryan McMahon, and the day was capped off by a ceremonial tree lighting and a visit by Santa.

There were over 25 families that entered the snow man contest with many creative and well-done efforts (from SpongeBob Squarepants to a Giant Turtle to an infant in a baby stroller) The following are the winners of the Snowman competition as chosen by the Hon. Judge James Cecile:
The Williams Family (Girls Night Out Snow Woman) - 1st Place
The Morey Family - 2nd Place (Tropical themed Snowman)
The Campbell-Rosbrook Family (Ski Lodge Snow dude) - 3rd Place

There were also snow games for the young and young-at-heart. There were obstacle courses, a snowball toss competition, a wreath toss, a sled parent pull race, and a Christmas tree toss. Thank you to everyone who filled the park with family fun and friendly competition!

Thanks again to our sponsors that made generous donations:
Alexandra Eyle - Silhouettes Women's Fitness, Michael and Maggie O'Connor - Delaney and O'Connor LLP, Ryan McMahon - 3rd District Councilor-Elect, Bill Kinne - 15th District County Legislator, Cote, Limpert, and Van Dyke,LLP, Nancy and Bob Wolcott - The Popcorn Supply Co., Laurin Haddad, Esq., The Onondaga Park Association and the CNY Community Foundation, Peg Harrigan & Family, Julie, George, Sam, and Ella Causton-Theoharis, Jerry and Lisa Crabtree, Bob and Kathy Nicholson, Ed and Laurie Golash, Carol Haber, and Randy Marshall

A very special thanks to Sue Boyle for all that she did to make this special event happen (not only she did come up with the idea, she organized the event, and made it a reality)!!

Thanks to everyone who came out, sang along, and shared your good cheer! Let's hope we can do it again next year.
