A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT..
Vice-Pres. Mark White successfully represented our
association before the Land Use Control Board. Our
members attended the monthly sessions by the busload on two occasions.

The median on Kirby Parkway has been kept in a park-like
condition this whole year,thanks to Russell Hill.

Holmes Park welcomed the addition of a bas-relief of Judge Holmes, presented by his family.

Our Garden Tour was the most successful in years and added to our fund-raising efforts. Plans are in progress for an even bigger and better Tour in
2004. Profits from the Tour largely offset the cost of maintaining Kirby Parkway.

PET HOTLINE: Mary Margaret Ware 754-5826

A new directory is forthcoming due to the tireless efforts of VP Ann Brown, Joan Vegezzi, and the Block Captains. Additionally, Ann has worked hard to achieve a new high in dues received: 73%of GCA residents. Thanks,Ann.

The First Annual July 4th Parade and Picnic was very well received. Connie
Davidson and her crew are planning expansions and improvements.

Greentrees is blesses with talented and innovative residents. Please get to know them and volunteer for a committee or other service when asked.

Juanna and I have enjoyed serving you this past year. Thanks to all of you for a memorable experience.

to Angie and Ted Yeiser who have moved to Collierville.
They have held many responsible positions of leadership in GCA, the last being editors of the Newsletter.

to Jennifer and Bob Timm, who served so effectively as dual Treasurers this past year, as they move to Germantown.

We thank these two attractive and energetic couples for all they have done for GCA and wish them and their families "Good Luck" in their future endeavors.

GARDEN CLUB

New-comers and other candidates are invited to join GREENTREES GARDEN CLUB which meets the THIRD Wednesday at 9:30 am from September to May.Interested? Call Cindy Waters (754-7548) or Joan Vegezzi(754-5485).

Be "on guard" with respect to your home and property, especially during the day, is the advice of police. Car break-ins and day-time burglaries are on the
rise, police and news media say. Vigilant residents and "Nosey Neighbors" are the best deterrents.

CONDOLENCES TO....

Mrs. Evelyn Echols on the death of her husband Jim. Former residents of Greentrees, the Echols family lived at 6849 Tangleberry Lane, where one of
their sons, Ken, and his wife,Laura, presently reside. Our sympathy goes to the entire Echols family.

GREENTREES SPOT-LIGHTS ...MARY MARGARET WARE

Just take a look at this woman's weekly schedule... it will make your head spin. MONDAY-(day off); TUESDAY-Serves Meals at MIFA; Greentrees on-Wheels for WEDNESDAY-Garden Club - where she serves as Chaplain; THURSDAY-Teaches English Second Language Class at La Belle Haven Baptist Church for Latin American immigrants. Her largest class has eleven members. FRIDAY-Gives Bibles to new mothers and babies at Baptist East Hospital Maternity Ward.
SATURDAY-(day off) SUNDAY-Attends Second Baptist Church with husband Dr. John R. Ware and family and works in the nursery there.

On her two "Days Off" (and most others), she makes breakfast, washes the dishes,cleans the house, walks their dog Annie through the neighborhood, and lends a sympathetic ear to her husband and family. John is a radiologist at Veterans Hospital. The Wares and their three children are long-time residents of Greentrees. Michael is attending Kennesaw State University in Atlanta,David is at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and Julie, the youngest, is at home.In addition, Mary Margaret has been, and is, deeply involved in the neighborhood in which her family lives. She serves on the Executive Committee of GCA as Representative of Area 4; operates its PET HOT LINE -which attempts to put residents who have "lost" pets in touch with those who have "found" pets - one of the most effective and worthwhile activities GCAoffers, and has frequently been observed cleaning, planting and watering in Holmes Park from time to time.

A warm and friendly neighbor,and a tireless worker, she richly deserves being "IN THE GCA SPOTLIGHT" for all of the good things she does for us.


FOURTH OF JULY PARADE AND PICNIC

The Officers and Executive Committee wish to thank all those who participated and helped make the inaugural 4TH OF JULY PARADE and the PICNIC such resounding successes. Whether you donated time, effort, food or money, "you are appreciated."

Excerpts from an appreciative mother to all those who helped..."Thank you so much for sending out the Newsletter in time for my family to prepare for the 4th of July Parade ... it was a great idea! My children couldn't wait for the Parade! They had so much fun with the decorations and planning. We thought the Parade was fantastic - a great way to see some of our neighbors -- and the Picnic and Music in the Park-PERFECT! Looking forward to next year"!

RACE FOR THE CURE
You are reminded that the 11th Annual 5K "Race for the Cure" will take place Saturday, October 25, 2003 from Saddle Creek Mall in Germantown. Proceeds go to Breast Cancer Research for Women. Interested runners or walkers can obtain Entry Forms from Kroger's. Fee is $20.00 before 9/30/03 - $25.00 after. Greentree participants are invited to meet at Connie Davidson's home, 6765 Sunburst Cove at 6:30 A. M. on October 25th for a light breakfast and then by car to Saddle Creek. RSVP for breakfast by registration in the Pink Bag on the gate. Contact Connie at 755-6711 or Ann Schmitt at 754-0365 for further information. If you can't "RACE," you can "WALK," if you can?’t "WALK," you can "CONTRIBUTE."

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR
Survey your property to ensure that limbs from trees do not impair vision of drivers entering or exiting nearby streets. Traffic on Kirby Parkway has greatly increased now that it?’s open to the Bill Morris Parkway.

A LETTER FROM SPOT To my family:
Even though I ran away from home, I still love you. I have been running around for two days looking for you. I don't know which house is mine because you never took me on walks around the neighborhood.
Today I saw another dog with his phone number on his collar. You would have been called by the kind people who petted me if I had had a collar with your number on it.
Yesterday I was so excited when I saw our car with Dad and Jimmy calling my name. Another car almost hit me when I tried to chase you across the street. I hope you find me soon because I'm tired and hungry, and cold. I really miss you a lot!
