Greentrees Annual Garden Tour

The Greentrees Garden Club has announced its annual garden tour for June 3. Six gardens will be on display this year. The times are from 10-3.
We encourage the residents of Greentrees to participate in this beautiful event. The majority of those who tour our neighbors?’ spectacular yards each year are from other parts of the city. Our own residents are missing an inspiring look at the handiwork of people with real green thumbs right here in Greentrees.

This year the following residents have graciously offered their gardens for the tour:

MR. AND MRS. STEVE CARTER
2050 HICKORY CREST DRIVE
MRS. WILMA GOODE
2093 HICKORY CREST DRIVE
MR. AND MRS. BILL MCGRATH
6791 Poplar Pike
MR. AND MRS. SHIVA NATARAJAN
2307 HICKORY CREST DRIVE
MR. AND MRS. BILL PICKENS
6790 SATINWOOD COVE
JUDGE AND MRS. KENNETH TURNER
1972 KIRBY PARKWAY.

For more details and ticket information contact Wilma Goode (756-4663) or Joan Vegezzi ((754-5485).

Newsletter Distribution

The Board of GCA has decided that the mailing of the GCA Newsletter will be limited to dues paying members beginning with calendar year 2007. About 75% of the residents of the Greentrees area pay dues each year. They receive the newsletter as an information and communications tool. The rest of the residents receive the newsletter even though they do not pay dues. The question came up recently, ?“What?’s the advantage of paying dues if everyone gets the same information whether they pay or not??”
Dues ($25.00 per household) are due January 1 of each year but we are accepting dues for the remainder of 2006 from those who have not paid. We have identified 74 addresses that have not paid any dues in the past three years.
We will continue to send the first newsletter of each year to everyone as a means of soliciting dues and keeping track of changes of residency in non-paying households. The remaining issues of the newsletter each year will be sent only to residents who are members of the association in good standing. So far this year over 63% of the 556 or so households in Greentrees have paid dues for 2006.
Why should you care about getting the newsletter? It is an excellent source of info about your neighborhood; contains updates on crimes in the area based on police/neighborhood patrol information; details upcoming events, church activities, other civic information; and identifies new residents and deaths in the neighborhood, just to name a few things the news letter brings.

QUESTION: Did you get an envelope in your Greentrees Newsletter?
ANSWER: NO, I Didn?’t. Well?…
Good for you! That?’s because you don?’t need one. You have already paid your 2006 Greentrees Civic Association dues and we THANK YOU!
ANSWER: YES, I DID! Well?…
that means you are one of the neighbors who has not paid Greentrees Civic Association for 2006.
The Greentrees Civic Association is
working hard to keep our neighborhood safe and beautiful, keeping an eye on
property values, and the number of
rental homes in our neighborhood.
You can show your concern and
support by returning the little envelope with your 2006 dues payment of $25.00 or more.

Greentrees Directory

A new Greentrees neighborhood directory is being prepared for publication early in 2007. Please check your entry in the current (2003) directory and report any needed changes to Ann Brown (754-8699). In that regard, it cannot be said too often that Concerned Neighbors Reduce Crime. Get to know your neighbors and offer to watch after their homes when they are away and ask them to do the same for you.

We have had some break-ins and robberies in the neighborhood during the past few months. Many of them were done during daylight hours when people were at work or away from home. One incident involved confrontation of a family member without injury, thank goodness.

LOOK ?–LOCK --LIGHT are key words for safety.

Keep vigilance for strangers near or on your property. Lock all doors and windows even when you are at home (many burglaries occur while you are cutting your grass and have left a door open).

And, above all, keep lights burning all night long in front and back of your home (or have a motion light that goes on when someone approaches). Make it look like you are at home even if you are not.

We are certainly not trying to scare anyone and do not want to beat a dead horse. But the crime situation is an ongoing concern in this and other neighborhoods. As long as that is the case, we feel an obligation to alert you to the best measures available.

If you have a crime, see the insert for numbers to call for help. Unfortunately, police response is not always immediate so call as soon as you can.
