John Reilly presented a proposal for a development on the corner of Shattuck and Boundary Street (PC 03-151681). The proposal includes five (5) four-plex condominium buildings and one 2500 square feet retail/commercial building. Mr. Reilly expects each unit to sell between $150,000 and $170,000 each. Many of the immediate neighbors were there to ask questions. The overwhelming concern of the neighbors is traffic flow to and from the development off Shattuck. Mr. Reilly indicated that the application for the development will be submitted as soon as possible and that all immediate neighbors should receive notice of the Land Use Application. Look for more discussion of this development at future meetings.
- Senior Neighborhood Officer, Scott Westerman, passed out maps of all police calls in our neighborhood. He also commented on the proposed Plaid Pantry on the corner of 45th and Vermont. Crime statistics for the Plaid Pantry currently located at the corner of 45th and Multnomah does not raise any concerns for Officer Westerman.
- David Fuks, CEO of Cedar Sinai Park (CSP), updated us on happenings at CSP. They are beginning the process to develop a master plan for their property. This will include a new health care center on the recently acquired property adjacent to the Rose Schnitzer Manor, demolition of the current Robison Jewish Health Center building, and the construction of affordable housing for seniors on the acreage fronting Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. Immediate plans for the former Alpenrose property include environmental restoration of the wooded area near the stream and construction of a path and gazebo. Neighbors expressed their concerns about construction traffic and the need for a traffic light on Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy at 62nd.
- There was discussion about the small pond forming at the corner of Vermont and Shattuck. Beavers have taken up residency there and have dammed the creek. Although there was some concern for the health of the beavers due to water runoff from the roads, it was generally agreed that as long as vector control keeps the mosquito population down, we do not mind the pond and the beavers.
