Heritage Monthly Meeting
May 31, 2007
An energy auditor from Clark Public Utilities talked to us about ways to save energy, and items that use the most energy.
You can get an item by item breakdown of energy use from everything a curling iron to a hot tub on their website www.clarkpublicutilities.com
They have energy counselors available at (360) 992-3355 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to answer any questions you may have about energy conservation.
An energy auditor can also come to you home FOR FREE to analyze your house and suggest ways to become more efficient. Because they don’t sell heating and weatherization equipment and materials, nor do they do the installation, they can give you an objective opinion about which energy-saving measures can and those that probably won't save you money.
Energy counselors can help you in the following ways:
· Analyze your home energy use and recommend steps to lower your electric bill.
· Give you tips on how to winterize your home.
· Guide you through the process of installing insulation, sealing ducts and selecting a heat pump.
· Provide you with written information about conservation products, programs and practices.
· Speak to your neighborhood group, homeowners association or other organization about energy conservation and the utility’s conservation programs.
They also have low interest 5% loans for weatherization, windows, etc.
Some specific ways to save are, caulk around windows, door, and water pipes.
Unplug appliance that aren’t being used. They all drain small amounts, even when you’re not using them.
Change filters regularly.
Have your house checked for insulation. If it was build before the ‘80s, it very likely has NO insulation in the floor, and inadequate amounts in the attic.
If you have energy-related questions, please call them at (360) 992-3355
He said their’s is the only company that will help you use LESS of their product.
