Public Affairs Manager
Jim shared some background about his 17-years with C-Tran.
Handout: “publiC-TRANsit” Spring 2005
This annual report was mailed to all C-Tran served areas in Clark County as part of The Columbian’s Food Day. Jim reviewed entire publication with us; it is a snap-shot of how C-Tran is doing after the budget defeat last fall.
In-depth discussion followed regarding resulting changes to the system, and fare structure.
Handout: Jim shared detail about the “Preservation Plan” which will allow C-Tran to restore many services back to year 2000 levels by:
*Improving Local Urban Service routes.
*Creating “feeder routes” with no stops between population centers (Ridgefield, La Center, Battleground, Yacolt, Camas/Washougal) and Vancouver.
*Making C-Van Paratransit available to the disabled as a call service.
*Maintaining special event services (i.e. fireworks).
*Maintaining premium commuter routes (but at higher rates).
C-Trans’ Board had just approved an all mail Ballot Measure for 9/20/05 increasing the county sales tax .02/$10.00 (2 cents for every 10 dollars spent) in order to fund the Preservation Plan.
There was a lot of discussion generally about the politics of public transportation systems, the funding of these systems and the ballot measure process.
Jim shared his plans for strengthening C-Tran’s Citizen’s Advisory Board.
