a letter from HPNA President Jack Elder:
Dear neighbors,
My name is Jack Elder and I?’ve lived on Kayton Avenue for the past 26 years. For most of this time I?’ve taught Spanish and math in nearby schools. I became active with the association while installing a xeriscape in my front yard in the fall of 2001. I?’ve been a board member of the Highland Park Neighborhood Association and now have been asked to serve as President.
As a voluntary neighborhood association, HPNA relies on the energies, vision and goodwill of its residents to keep Highland Park a place we?’re proud to call home. HPNA offers a variety of ways to assist you in meeting what you feel are concerns in our neighborhood. Meanwhile, there are some things we can do ourselves that will help make Highland Park a desirable place to live:
1) Keep alleys clear of trash and vegetation,
2) Keep vehicles off of lawns,
3) Keep sidewalks clear (Think of traveling your portion of sidewalk in a wheelchair),
4) Take back the streets by biking, walking or skating, and
5) get to know your neighbors.
I hope to see you at our monthly meetings at the Bode Center at Highland Park the second Saturday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m.

What?’s going on in the south of Highland Park?
Last year HPNA President Rachel Cywinski informed all City Council members that they were voting on a zoning change without having given any of the required legal notification to the neighborhood association. To this date, Highland Park Neighborhood Association has received none of the legal notification that was required before a zoning change vote occurred.
