I Asked about compostng among HPNA people

City of San Antonio recvd a grant to give composting bins -- recylced plastic (3 ft in diameter)
Bi-Weekly compsoting classes at warehousing facility  5015 Airpark off of Hwy 90 and rt S Acme and left on Airpark
mulching blades available as well
June 5 is one and then every other Friday 9:30 am and then one at 11
 
no weekends or evenings
maybe one Saturday a month

-- you can get the bin variety of the circle pen kind

1.  Landfill is full (new in 1980 and its full now) .. city is paying for landfill space
recycle and compost keeps stuff out of landfill

2.  Good for lawn and less water


3.  Compost runoff is non-toxic

Slow and cool method --- layer organic waste and grass clippings


Layered approach ... brown waste (paper and cardbaord) shredded
grass clippings layer (NOT WEEDS!)
kitchen scraps ... coffee grounds and egg shells in center of pile



and then once a week .. make sure its damp like a wet sponge
turn it about once a week to aerate


layer and turn and dampen


6 months later you should have at the bottom of pile ... you should have gardenable compost

the rollable one needs to be in shady spot and needs a tarp over it

Recycling refresher ... no plastic bottle tops
glass jar lids
pizza boxes ... w/o food okay
styrofoam packaging .. if the styrofoam rips clean then its ok .. if it shreds don't recycle it
rinse containers
remember the recycles are hand sorted ..try and keep em clean of food and other contaminents


III Dial a trailer

IV  Adopt a spot ..  the neighborhood adopts a public right of way ... you get trash grabbers/ bags and gloves
3 times a yr clean up for 2 years duration

Burglery of Habitation 4 (20 in April)
Burlery of Bldg 4
Vehicle burglary 10 (april had 18)
Business robbery ... 2 in May  (Jack in the Box and Dollar General) (offender was caught on Steves and S. New Braunfels)
4 theft of vehicles  (2 in april)
3 deadly conducts  (2 in april)
5 robbery of individuals  (no weapon)  all at night 6:30 pm to 2:30 am (none in April)

Kids out of school ... pay attention
no tagging last month on Steves and S New Braunfels

Highland Park Neighborhood Obelisks from the 1910s - 1920s :  San Antonio Conservation Society has a grant for projects like the obelisks
we need the city to sign off on the project Sept 2010 deadline

we can't get permission from the owners b/c one of the properties is in receivership  --
 can our city council person help us secure the permission as the obelisks are on public right of way
 -- we want to fix these pillars appropriately
