Highland Park Neighborhood Association (HPNA)

2010 Year in Review

Its been an incredible year in Highland Park! We started monthly meetings in January in hopes of creating excitement and determining what neighbors needed and wanted from a neighborhood association. Monthly meetings will become quarterly meetings in 2011. Thank you to all the neighbors who volunteered, participated, and made suggestions.

The spring park clean up with I Love GR Parks was a great success! The gardens were mulched, all the benches and tables were spruced up with new paint, and the unsightly dirt pile from old construction was leveled out and planted with grass. Several volunteers also picked up trash as well as pulled up the very invasive garlic mustard plants.

The neighborhood wide garage sale happened in June and had 13 participants. The small amount of interest in the neighborhood wide garage sale means that no garage sale will be planned for 2011 unless we get and overwhelming response from neighbors.

Dumpster Day is always a neighborhood hit! Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers who helped make Dumpster Day possible and we look forward to seeing all the neighbors again for this event next year.

The second annual HPNA fall picnic was in September. We had several rain barrel builders who came out and enjoyed the gorgeous day at the park making rain barrels and now they are proud protectors of our river. Every gallon of storm water that the rain barrels catch is storm water that is not carrying contaminants and pollutants into the Grand River!
