BUILDING COMMUNITY COMMITTEE

Apr 17, 2001

The Building Community committee is a result of the great response we had to the Whassup? party this fall. Paul Chet and I met personally with 57 of the 59 unit residents and we believe this personal contact was responsible for the over 50 residents who came out that evening for Great Fun and Refreshments. Pizza was courtesy of MamaRoni?¹s Pizza and Steeles Market provided the ice cream treats. Armed with the positive response and feedback, I agreed to chair this committee and met with the city?¹s Neighborhood Resource Office staff to discuss forming a neighborhood association. The board is very supportive of this new association.

Annual Meeting Social Hour
More than 24 residents came to the social hour before the annual meeting in
January. People mingled and talked, getting to know one another while downing cookies and coffees (courtesy of Kaffe Rassiya). At 7 o?¹clock, we had to tell everyone to sit down and stop talking so we could start the meeting. What a great problem to have at an annual board meeting!

Neighborhood Association Meeting
Spurred on by residents?¹ continued interest in building community, we held a Neighborhood Association formation meeting on February 27. Seventeen residents attended, bringing their enthusiasm and ideas. Good old-fashioned brainstorming included holding a progressive hors doeuvre party, a community garage sale, landscape planting work days and more summer events. Future meetings to plan these activities and more will be posted on the mailbox, so watch for dates!

Fun times are ahead! The new association will be known as the Hill Pond Neighborhood Association?‹different from the Hill Pond Homeowners Association (the Association?¹s official name).

I would like to see the Hill Pond sense of community improve. Because we all live in close proximity to each other, I think it would be nice to know our neighbors a little better. The board has made some great advances in this area and more is to come. Bill Sprouse

Ginny Sawyer, from the city?¹s Neighborhood Resource Office, polled those at the neighborhood meeting as to what we liked about Hill Pond. Here are the results:

  • COUNTRYSIDE FEELING AND OPEN AREAS

  • NO YARD WORK

  • TREES AND WILDLIFE

  • GREAT COMMON AREA

  • SECLUDED WITH EASY ACCESS LOCATION

  • TRAILS AND POND

  • DIVERSITY OF UNIT DESIGNS

  • PRIVATE PATIOS

  • DIVERSITY OF RESIDENTS

  • QUIET

WANTS:

  • Be more neighborly as a community

  • Get to know our neighbors better
