This is a community of close-knit residents who share a common thread that holds them together. It's the esteem and pride of residents actively involved in the communities renewed vitality and wholesomeness, which is needed to advance into the millennium prosperously.

The Hillside/Lapham Park Community is a lovely neighborhood located within 10 blocks of downtown Milwaukee, with easy access to the expressways and public transportation for convenience to all areas of the city, and is also convenient to schools, shopping and recreational parks.

The Hillside/Lapham Park Community has four HUD federally subsidized housing developments located within its boundaries. The revitalized Hillside Terrace and Lapham Park housing now under renovation has made this community a neighborhood of choice for low-income families. Plymouth Hill Apartments, Walnut Park Apartments both senior independent living facilities and Mayflower Court condominiums the only owner occupied housing. Plymouth Manor Rehabilitation Center, a skilled nursing home for persons of all ages with disabilities.

Neighborhood Strategic Planning Area #13 of Milwaukee’s Community Development Block Grant and Housing Authority City of Milwaukee are neighborhood resources which are available to the residents. Services provided through these resources at the Hillside Family Resource Center, Hillside Family Health Care Center, Daughters of Luke LTD, Inc. for senior support services, Hillside Boys & Girls Club for youth programs. HACM resident employment services, Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation home improvement loans, rental rehab, and a citywide home buyer counseling and 1st time buyer down-payment assistance grants are also available.

Other positive investments in residents are made available several on-site social service organizations, which are, Maximus, Hillside Daycare Services Inc., Milwaukee Area Technical Collage at the Hillside Learning Lab.

The community benefits from the ongoing support of the Mayor John Norquist, 6th District Alderwoman John-son Odom, 13th Supervisory District Willie Johnson, Jr. and the Milwaukee Police Department’s 5th District officers.

The business district includes wholesale, retail, office spaces, manufacturing and assembly. An administration office for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee is under construction on the corner of 6th and Galena Street.

The Commerce Street Power Plant is currently being renovated into a mixed-use facility. The main power plant building is set to become the headquarters for Time Warner Cable. It is expected that the other two buildings will be renovated into restaurants and other commercials uses.

Harley-Davidson has also proposed a museum as an addition in Schlitz Park. The museum proposal is still in the planning stages.

The City of Milwaukee planning site improvements for the Commerce Street Plaza and connecting our neighborhood to Milwaukee's popular Riverwalk.

Our neighborhood is geographically defined by the boundaries of 12th Street on the west along the expressway to the northeast, 6th Street on the east, Walnut-Pleasant Street on the north to the Milwaukee River and Juneau Ave. on the south.
