The Historic Eastside Neighborhood Association sponsors horse-drawn carriage tours every year in early December. A narrator dressed in a turn-of-the-century-style costume rides with each tour as it travels through our National Historic District.
The narrator talks about the area’s settlement in 1871 as the Chicago-Colorado Colony, describes the architecture of the houses along the route, and recounts stories of early residents of this oldest neighborhood in Longmont.
We stage this event to draw attention to this neighborhood’s continuing contribution to the fabric of our community and to encourage historic preservation. To be a part of this festive project, give Sue Ann Volmer a call at 303-485-5419.
While most of our efforts go toward projects to improve the neighborhood, it’s refreshing to meet socially (without a signup sheet!) and get to know each other better. The wine tasting parties have been a great way to build camaraderie. A host provides the space, and the guests bring the wine and food. If you interested in hosting a gathering, e-mail Linda Arnold at lindaa@exabyte.com .
Every August we coordinate a neighborhood-wide garage sale. The sponsors’ addresses are listed on an ad placed in the local newspaper, but everyone is encouraged to empty attics and garages into their front yards. Sometimes it feels as if we are trading the same “interesting but not immediately useful” treasures among ourselves! Watch the newsletter for the schedule of this year’s sale.
