--Speeding continues to be a problem in our area. As the weather warms up, more children will be crossing streets and playing outdoors. Please remember that the residential speed is 25 miles per hour.
--Several sightings of coyotes have been made in our area. Coyotes seem to be enjoying the abundance of rabbits around the Holland Park area, especially Douglas Creek. It's important to note that in urban settings, coyotes lose their fear of people and may threaten dometic pets. If you encounter a coyote, please follow these simple rules:
keep your distance and do not approach the animals; keep your pets on a leash when walking them; throw rocks or sticks to frighten it away if a coyote approaches you or your pet; and use a loud, authoritative voice to frighten the animal. If you meet a mountain lion, stay calm, stop or back away slowly and do all you can to appear larger; and if the lion behaves aggresively, throw stones, branches or whatever you can get your hands on without crouching down or turning your back. Finally, fight back if a lion attacks you. Lions have been driven away by prey that fights back.
--Please be aware that unlicensed vehicles parked in neighborhood streets will be reported and ticketed. Also, it is against city code to park trailer trucks (18-wheelers) on residential streets.
