What?’s Expected of a Neighborhood Watch Member?

*Develop a watchful, concerned attitude. Be aware of what is going on in your neighborhood.
*Report suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to the sheriffs department immediately.
*Let someone in the group know when you will away from home, and watch your neighbors home when they are away.
*Participate in operation I.D.
*Attend regular meetings with other Watch group members.

Is Neighborhood Watch Really Effective?

In order to be successful criminals must have three things, desire, opportunity and ability. Active Neighborhood watch groups deny the criminals the opportunity and ability to operate undetected.

How Does the Neighborhood Watch Work?

You and your neighbors are the ones who are in a position to really know what goes on in your neighborhood. Ask yourself, would a passing deputy sheriff recognize a stranger in your yard or a suspicious vehicle in your driveway? Probably not, but your neighbor would. That is what a neighborhood watch is all about, organizing the eyes and ears of the entire community into a powerful, hard to penetrate 24 hour a day barrier protecting our neighborhood from crime.

*Improve the security of their homes, families and personal belongings.
*Recognize suspicious and unusual activity in the community.
*Build a communication network that works to inform and protect the community.
*Gain a sense of genuine security through their ability to actually deter crime.

The neighborhood watch does not require a large time commitment or a loss of privacy. It does not ask that any member take personal risk, only that they be observant and report suspicious activity to law enforcement and to the block captains.
