Hudson's Bay Neighborhood Association

2008-2009 Neighborhood Tree Planting

Let's Plant Some Trees in Hudson's Bay

Would you like to see more trees planted in our neighborhood? Are you interested in bringing our neighborhood together with a community-building event but you're not sure how? Friends of Trees can help through their Neighborhood Coordinator Training on July 12 (time and location are not confirmed yet, contact Emily Hill, 619-1127 for details.)

Friends of Trees brings community members in the Portland-Vancouver area together to plant trees and care for our urban forest. Through partnership with Vancouver's Urban Forestry Program, Friends of Trees is able to provide low-cost street and yard trees to homeowners and businesses in participating neighborhoods. Neighbors come together on a designated planting day to plant trees for one another with guidance from trained Friends of Trees volunteers. During the 2007-2008 planting season, Friends of Trees planted 365 street and yard trees in 19 Vancouver neighborhoods, although Hudson's Bay was not one of these neighborhoods. Many of us HBers would like to change that this coming year!

Volunteer Opportunities

FOT's tree plantings are made possible by the dedication of volunteer Neighborhood Coordinators who work with Friends of Trees to organize planting events. In order to implement projects for the 2008-2009 planting season, Friends of Trees needs more Neighborhood Coordinators. If you are a Hudson's Bay tenant or property owner, or if you own a business in Hudson's Bay, please consider getting involved at this level.

Neighborhood Coordinators promote trees within their neighborhood association, keep track of homeowner inquiries and tree requests, and help organize a planting event with support from Friends of Trees. If you would like to coordinate a tree planting project in Hudson's Bay, please call Emily Hill at (360)-619-1127 or email neighborhood.trees@ci.vancouver.wa.us to learn more or sign up for Neighborhood Coordinator Training on July 12.

If you would like to chat with a board member who has taken the training and been a coordinator before (though not in Hudson's Bay), feel free to call Jozie Rabyor at 699-6311.
