As created February 3, 2003, and amended June 6, 2005, and June 4, 2007, as prescribed in Article VI, Section 1.
The Hungarian Village Society is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Hungarian Village and the surrounding areas. We are a diverse group of residents, homeowners, and landlords actively working together to make our community a safe vibrant, and comfortable urban environment. We are a mix of long time South Side residents and newcomers committed to creating a revitalized and invigorated neighborhood that is on its way to becoming one of Columbus' best places to live.
Section 1
This organization shall be known as "The Hungarian Village Society."
Section 1
The objects of the Hungarian Village Society shall be to unite those interested in the restoration and improvement of the area in the near south side of the City of Columbus, Ohio, designated as Hungarian Village; and
a) To perpetuate pride and understanding of the community.
b) To foster civic involvement in public projects of benefit to Hungarian Village and the Columbus community.
c) To support other public and charitable groups for the betterment of the citizens of Hungarian Village and Columbus.
d) To promote high standards of conduct among its members in their dealings with one another and with the public.
In furtherance of the above purposes, the Society shall be governed by the following rules: No part of the net earnings of the Society shall inure to HVS Constitution page 2 of 4 the benefit of or be distributable to its members, officers, or other private persons, except that the Society shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth above. No loans shall be made by the Society to its officers. The Society shall not participate in, or intervene (including the publishing or distribution of statements) in any political campaign on behalf of or against any candidate for public office.
Section 1
There shall be four classes of membership:
a) Resident of Hungarian Village (property owner or tenant)
b) Affiliate property owner (non-resident property owner or landlord)
c) Non-resident and non- property owner affiliate member.
d) Group (church, business or organization) within Hungarian Village geographic boundaries.
Section 2
Memberships are open to those individuals, 18 years or older, interested in the aims and principles of the society.
Section 3
Each resident member (Section 1a) and affiliate member (Section 1b) shall have one vote. Group members (Section 1d) shall have one vote per church, organization or business. Non-resident and non-property owner affiliate members (Section 1c) shall not have voting rights.
Section 4
Every person applying for membership and every member shall be of good character and of good standing in the community.
Section 5
Membership in the Society is to be maintained by regular renewal of membership as prescribed by the By-Laws.
Section 1
The officers of the Society shall be a President, a Vice-President, and a Secretary/Treasurer.
Section 2
Each officer shall be a member of the Society in good standing at the time of his/her nomination and election.
Section 3
The officers shall have the powers and perform the duties for their offices as described in the By-Laws.
Section 4
The membership may remove any officer at any time by a three-fourths (3/4) vote of the entire membership.
Section 5
In the event of a vacancy in the office of the President, the Vice-President shall succeed to the office for the unexpired term. A vacancy, however created, in the office of Vice-President, or Secretary/Treasurer shall be filled for the unexpired term by a majority of the membership selecting a successor from among the remaining members of the Society.
Section 6
No officer of the Society shall be paid or receive any salary, wages or compensation for services rendered to the Society nor shall a pecuniary or financial gain accrue to any person by reason of his/her holding any office in the Society.
Section 7
All officers shall be elected in June of each year by the membership in the manner provided in the By-Laws and shall serve for the year beginning July 1st after their election.

There shall be regular and special meetings for the membership of the Society as designated in the By-Laws.
Section 2
Twenty percent (20%) of all voting members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business at any meeting of the Society.

This Constitution may be amended or repealed by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the voting members present and voting. Any proposed change in the Constitution shall be communicated to the membership at least fifteen (15) days prior to the date of vote. The amendment or repeal of the Constitution may be proposed by the officers or membership.

The Society shall under no circumstances have the power to dissolve as long as the membership consists of ten (10) or more members. Should the membership of the Society fall below that number of ten (10) members, a majority of these ten (10) members may dissolve the Society.

Whenever the word "Society" is used in this Constitution or in the By- Laws, it shall mean "The Hungarian Village Society."

The Society shall not be a means of furthering any religious or political purpose.
Section 2
No one shall use the name or insignia of the Society to sponsor the sale of goods, merchandise, subscriptions, or services, unless specifically approved by the membership.
Section 3
The Society emblem shall be a row of three early twentieth century houses backed by the Hungarian flag colors of red, white and green and may appear on membership cards and stationery of the Society.
Section 4
The official colors of the Society shall be red, white, and green.
Section 5
"Hungarian Village" is that area as bounded on the north by East Hinman Ave., on the south by East Woodrow Ave., on the east by the west side of Parsons Ave., and on the west by the east side of South High Street.
