Hunters Ridge Pool Season:
May 13 ?– September 10
The Hunters Ridge Village Community Pool opens with a big splash on Saturday, May 13. The hours for the first two weekends are 12 ?– 6 p.m. The full regular season hours, beginning Friday, May 26, are 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. (Adult swim from 8 - 9 p.m.) on Mondays and Thursdays; and 12 noon - 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The pool is closed on Tuesdays for cleaning and maintenance.
How to Book a Pool Party
DS Recreational Services is our Aquatics Management company, responsible for managing the pool area and recreation facilities. Call DS at 281-443-7665 and ask for the party reservations desk. Have ready the date you would like to have your party, the to and from time, and how many guests you will be expecting. The DS staff will let you know how many lifeguards you will need, and how much it will cost, based on the facility, location, number of guests and how many hours you plan on having your party. After the community association and DS have approved your information, and there are no conflicts, DS will call you back and give you the okay.
Please book pool parties at least two weeks in advance to ensure proper scheduling. The two weeks allows DS to mail you a standard contract that can be faxed back to their office at 281-443-1524.
If you have a change in plans, please give DS at least 48 hours notice. Without proper notice of cancellation, you will forfeit your $100 deposit. Acts of nature will not cause you to lose your deposit and/or usage fee.
Village Otters Swim Team
The mighty Village Otters swim team (swimmers from Hunters Ridge, Elm Grove, Sherwood Trails, and New Caney) started using the Hunters Ridge pool for practice on May 1, continuing through June 23. Hunters Ridge participation is again strong for the Division I team that had a very successful 1999 season. All home meets will be held at the Elm Grove pool. Hunters Ridge Board member Jim Dees serves on the Otters Board, along with Hunters Ridge residents Kathy Hall, Leslie Johannsen, and Gelly Estess. Thanks to each of them for their hard work and dedication. GO OTTERS!
Swimming Lessons
DS Recreational Services has a new system that should make the scheduling process quick and easy for swimming lessons this summer. The summer schedules are very flexible. Simply call Beth, Swim Lesson Coordinator, at the DS office, 281-443-7665, and arrange the time and dates that best fit your schedule. You can take lessons twice a week or all four days. All of the classes are small, and 30 minutes long. DS offers private lessons ($25), semi-private lessons ($12.50), and group lessons ($8, no more than 4 students). There is a requirement of a minimum of 8 lessons per child. DS teaches all levels, including parent/child classes. From June ?– August, lessons will be taught from 4 p.m. ?– 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. When you call Beth at DS, please have ready the dates and times that you would like to schedule, as well as the age and skill level of your child.
Monthly Meeting Schedule
The Hunters Ridge Village CA meetings are held on the second Tuesday, 7 p.m., at the Elm Grove Community Room, 2731 Clear Ridge.

To increase our communication with Hunters Ridge residents (and prospective residents), we now have two separate web sites where more detailed information on Hunters Ridge can be obtained. The first, by Kingwood Association Management, is at www.kingwoodcable.com/kam. All deed restrictions and other official documents are available here, along with other information.
The second is a site donated by the City of Houston, developed and maintained by Board members at www.neighborhoodlink.com/hrv. Visit these sites regularly for updates on Hunters Ridge happenings, deed restrictions information, discussion forums and more. All newsletters are also published online.

Mosquito Fogging
Mosquito fogging began on April 5, and will continue at least weekly through October. Our contractor is Excalibur Pest Control.
Curb Numbering Survey
The curb numbering survey enclosed with the Annual Meeting notice and newsletter in January produced a small response from residents ?– 10%. Although respondents favored HRVCA taking over this service by a 2 ?– 1 margin, the Board chose to take no action due to the small response and a number of concerns raised by residents. The Board DOES, however, encourage each resident to take responsibility for keeping their street number clearly marked on their curb. Approximately 70% in our community already do this.
Masonite Claims Available
Many Hunters Ridge residents have already benefited from the Masonite Hardboard Siding Settlement reached in 1999. If your home has rotting, warped or otherwise deteriorating Masonite, you can file a claim with the Independent Claims Administrator by calling 1-800-330-2722 and requesting an inspection of your siding. After the inspection, a monetary offer will be made, which can be accepted, or a second inspection may be requested. In most cases, the offer covers 40 ?– 60% of the square footage of siding on a typical home.
Homeowners can try to solve the problem through partial replacement of damaged siding, or completely replacing the siding with a wood composite or a fiber-cement such as Hardiplank,
a James Hardie siding product. Hardiplank has a 50 year warranty and is increasingly being used in both
new homes and for siding replacement. Many Hunters Ridge residents have chosen to use Hardiplank. Deed Restrictions Summary
The following is a condensed form of the Protective Covenants (the ?“Deed Restrictions?”) governing the Hunter?’s Ridge community, taken from the full original 1979 documents and clarifying policy resolutions passed by the HRVCA Board since 1994. Copies of the full documents for Sections 1 - 4 are available at www.kingwoodcable.com/kam and the Harris County Kingwood Library. Although the covenants are each slightly different (except Sections 3 and 4, which are identical), this summary applies to all four sections of Hunter?’s Ridge Village. ACC Submission forms may be obtained from Community Asset Management at 281-852-1155.
No additions or alterations to the exterior of the house are permitted without prior approval from the Architectural Control Committee (the ?“ACC?”). Such modifications include, while not being limited to: structural additions, exterior painting (including color), roofing (must be 25 yr. warranty or better, non 3-tab shingle construction, and wood-tone shingle color), and satellite dish installation.
Nothing may be built on a lot without prior approval of the ACC. This includes, but is not limited to, pools, storage buildings, playhouses, driveway extensions, patio/deck covers, etc. No temporary structures are permitted.
No live trees with a diameter of 4?” or more shall be removed unless they are diseased, unsightly, or pose a hazard to the property. ACC approval is required prior to removal.
No activity, whether for profit or not, is permitted if not related to single-family residential purposes.
No activity shall be permitted which may be or become an annoyance or nuisance to the neighborhood. The Association?’s Board of Directors has the authority to determine what constitutes a nuisance to the community, and has adopted certain guidelines, in the form of policy resolutions, to further clarify this restriction.
Any structure other than the original house and garage is limited to eight (8) feet in height.
No boats, trailers, campers, inoperative cars, etc. may be stored on or next to the driveway or on public streets. Any such storage must be completely screened from public view.
No animals other than common household pets are allowed. Pets must be leashed when not restrained within an adequate enclosure. A total of no more than five (5) cats and/or dogs is permitted, with no more than three (3) dogs allowed by City of Houston Ordinance.
All lots shall be kept in a sanitary, attractive and safe condition at all times. Height of grass may not exceed six (6) inches. Grass and/or weeds must be kept from growing over on to the street. No burning of trash, leaves, etc. is allowed; any wood piles must be neatly stacked; and yard equipment and storage piles must be screened from public view.
Objects or plantings on corner lots must not obstruct visibility at intersections and must meet certain setback and height requirements.
No advertising or contractor signs are permitted, except one ?“For Sale?” or ?“For Rent?” sign, limited to 576 square inches.
Retired Activities Office
The Retired Activities Office offers assistance to eligible individuals seeking information, help or guidance related to privileges or problems associated with former military service. The term eligible individuals includes all living retired members of all branches of the uniformed military services, their dependents and spouses, and may include dependents and spouses of deceased members and former spouses. The Retired Activities Office is staffed by a group of military retirees. A contact may save you a round trip to the nearest full-time facility 200 miles away. Volunteers are present in the mornings. Dogs on the Greenbelt
All of us have probably seen unleashed dogs on the Kingwood greenbelts. Be advised that the City of Houston has a leash ordinance, in addition to Kingwood deed restrictions, and the Houston Police Department bicycle patrol is authorized to hand out tickets on the greenbelt.
