Fall picnic at Drayton Woods Park!

Oct 13, 2001

It?’s been quite a summer and early fall to say the least. We?’ve seen June/July/August fly by and we?’re back into another fall and for a lot of us, another school year.
We?’ve also seen our country attacked. Over 5,000 fellow American neighbors fell but and an even greater number of American neighbors rose to the challenge of rescue and rebuilding. Neighbors from our area held a bake sale at two local Kroger stores to raise $2,100 for the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Thank you, Crista Reed, for organizing this and thanks to all the other neighbors who donated time and baked goods to the effort. Also a prayer vigil was held at the corner of Drayton Woods and Brantford Dr. to pray for the victims and their families, the rescue workers, our country?’s leaders and our service men and women, some from our own neighborhood, who may be called to arms in response to the attack on our country. Thank you, Sonia Muhammad, for bringing members of Atlanta Church of Christ into the community to lead the neighborhood in prayer at a time when it was surely needed.
With that all said, we are encouraged to go on in our lives and continue in the American way of life. Not to forget, but to persevere. And in the American sense of community the traditional gathering presents itself in the form a picnic. A time to take pause from our busy lives and say hello to our neighbors, catch up with what?’s happening with the friends we?’ve already made in the neighborhood and also a chance to make new friends.
The spring picnic was a lot of fun with over 75 people in attendance (see photos on back page). So if you have the afternoon free please stop on by and say hello.
What?’s going on at the picnic?
?• FREE Hot dogs for the kids
?• Soft drinks will be provided.
?• Door prizes from Coca Cola, Jazzercise, and Columbia Pictures
?• If you plan on eating at the picnic, please bring a dish to pass and share.
(At the Spring Picnic this worked out well and we had more than enough for everyone)
?• Plenty of conversation about what?’s happening in the neighborhood (what?’s up with the park and pool?)
If you?’ve never been down to the park before this is a great opportunity to look around and see what all the ?“hub-bub?” is about.
For DWRC members A mandatory DWRC membership meeting will also be held just before picnic at 4:00pm
DWRC had a service come in and mow down the grass, but a few of us will be quickly tidying up the park the morning of the picnic about 10:00 a.m. if you?’d like to join in.
