This is definitive information on the first national park, done by Olmsted in 1865. It served, in some respects, as a prototype for Iroquois, on a mini-scale and the city and park definitely benefited from his many years of experience and his knowledge gained from this national park. As every one knows the national parks are threatened from over us same as Iroquois and the people who are concerned may get some useable ideas from
reading about Yosemite. I have . I think it is way pass time that those people who are concerned about Iroquois form their own association. It is a municipal park and not the property of one ward.
Join the Olmstead Conservancy volunteers and meet your neighbors. We hold
landscape management projects one Saturday a month . The schedule for
Iroquois Park is October 20--meet at Amphitheater parking lot. November
17--meet at golf course parking lot . Projects are from 9 a.m. till noon. We
remove invasive plants maintain pathways and pick up litter. It helps to make the parks a more attractive place for us all. To check on weather related cancellations call 456-3275 after 7:30 on Saturday. Thanks Jeanie Conder (Olmstead volunteer)
