VE Day France a letter form the front

Hi Mom & Dad

Well folks. the day has finally arrived. At last the war is over. It's hard to realize, it has been going on so long.

Boy I wish I could be home. I bet the people are really celebrating. As for us, it's just another day. We did have a pretty big parade. There are a lot of French soldiers here in the French Air Force. So with them and our soldiers together, it made for a fair- size parade. Boy these French people really did cheer the Americans. They have a right to celebrate. They have suffered plenty in the past five years. The war is over for them now, but for us, there is stll a big job ahead on the other side of the world. I hope and pray we can finish it soon. That is when we can really celebrate, when the Japs surrender.





These French have gone completely goofy. They started last night and are still going strong. They have a big square here in town and it was just jammed with people screaming, dancing, screaming, singing. I guess they are really whooping it up back home. I'd give anything to be back home. I'd give anything just to be there, too. It really looked good to see bright lights again. The square was all lit up and to me it looked like Times Square.
I guess we will know pretty soon, whether we go to the Pacific or stay here for awhile. Either way it will be quite awhile before I can come home but things look better now than they have for a long time. If only the Japs will give up soon. I'm glad I was able to help a little toward the Victory over here. Although we weren't here long. I saw all I wanted to see. I feel like I helped a little bit anyway.

I would give anything just to be home for a little while. It seems so awfully long since I've seen you. But things do look brighter now. God willing, maybe Japan will soon be defeated. Then I'll come home for good.

I'll sign off for now. Tell everybody hello for me. Say a little prayer of Thanksgiving for me, for being lucky over here and a few for the boys who won't come back.
