March 18 Meeting
The Neighborhood Association welcomed 21 District Council Member Dan Johnson to the meeting.
As featured speaker, Council Member Johnson summarized actions taken as a result of the damaging windstorm and tornado. Johnson opened the floor for questions. There was a considerable number of issues regarding drainage and street paving. There was a great deal of concern about the City abandonment of Winterfest in Iroquois Park and the loss of the lighting that made the event such an attraction.
Association members discussed the renewed interest in the New Cut Road Corridor and urged Johnson to work with the neighborhood in and orderly redevelopment that retains the historical features that make up the Iroquois Communty.
Members were pleased to learn that Johnson is the current chair of the Metro Council Appropriations Committee.
Authors Stefanie Buzan and Rosemary McCandless engaged members in a most revealing and enlightening game "Before and After". It became clear as membership played. that much of the historical fabric of the community has been torn away; that careful consideration must be made for additional development.
Buzan reminded membership of the cleanup scheduled for March 29.
