Stop annoying dinnertime phone calls!

Colorado residents can now reduce those pesky dinnertime interruptions by adding their phone numbers to the state?’s official no-call list. Telemarketers must avoid calling numbers on the list beginning July 1, or risk penalties. The Colorado No-Call List Act was signed into state law by Governor Bill Owens last July, but no structure was in place to enforce the law. The law will take effect on June 10, after which companies must pay an annual registration fee to obtain a copy of the list to ensure that the numbers on the list are not part of their solicitation databases.
Residents wishing to sign up for the list can do so at www.coloradonocall.com, or by calling the toll-free number 1-888-249-9097. There is no charge to sign up, and both options are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Residents can register both telephone and fax numbers, but business numbers are exempt from the law. Additionally, residents can register complaints of telemarketing violations online.
Signing up for the list does not automatically prevent residents from receiving telemarketing calls. A grace period applies, depending on when a person signs up, to allow registered companies to receive quarterly updates of the list. Additionally, the law permits some calls, including those from non-profit charitable organizations, calls to a resident who has previously expressed consent to receive calls, calls to a resident with whom the company has an established business relationship, calls up to 30 days after a resident has inquired about the potential purchase of goods or services, and calls supporting, opposing or conducting polls regarding political candidates or ballot issues.
