Vacant Homes

We would like to ask you for assistance in your neighborhoods by alerting us to a particular type of crime. Because of the number of vacant homes in some areas, these homes are becoming prime targets for various crimes. As a result, we are asking you to pay close attention to any vacant homes in your neighborhood, this includes apartments, condos, mobile homes, and single family structures. If you notice any suspicious person, vehicle, or other activity in or around a vacant home, please call Mesa Police Department (480) 644-2211. For instance, a window open or broken, door left open, lights on that haven't been before, someone removing wire or appliances from a vacant home, etc. these need to be reported as they could be signs of burglary. DO NOT enter a home that has an open window or door! Please just call Police and report it for two reasons: 1) You could surprise a burglar and be injured - and - 2) You could disturb evidence that we need to collect. If you know who owns one of these vacant homes, let them know that they can contact Mesa Police and request additional patrol in the area. It helps our Officers to know which homes should be vacant. If a vacant home is being remodeled, it helps us to know who should be there working and for how long too. With school out for the summer, please educate your children about never entering one of these homes or other vacant buildings either. Have them put the non-emergency number (480) 644-2211 in their cell phone address book and teach them how to report a crime too. Remember, you are our eyes and ears and you know what is suspicious in your neighborhood - your help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you,

Gas Theft

With rising gas prices we have also seen an increase in gas theft/siphoning from vehicles. If you currently do not have a locking device on your gas tank, please consider purchasing a locking gas cap, which can be purchased at any auto supply store or store where they sell auto parts/supplies. If possible, park where your vehicle can be seen by others, and not in a remote area or behind a business. Always make sure your doors and windows are closed and locked, and never leave anything of value in your vehicle. Taking these steps will help decrease your chances of becoming victimized.
If you see any suspicious activity around vehicles, please don't hesitate to contact the police at 644-2211. Also remember not to leave children or pets in your vehicle unattended and without the a/c on, even for a short time, as the heat rapidly rises in an enclosed area and can cause severe harm or death.
Thank you.
