Lexington Road Preservation Area (LRPA)

FROM YOUR ALDERWOMAN…….Tina Ward Pugh

I trust everyone has noticed the transformation that is occurring?—albeit slowly-to the median along Lexington Road at Grinstead Drive. For over a year your neighborhood leaders have worked with City government to design a welcoming, attractive entrance to the Lexington Road area. Work to date has included the removal of the asphalt median and replacement with good soil and trees. Additional landscaping is scheduled any day now which will complete the median. Watering crews have been hired to ensure the good growth and maintenance of the new plantings. Bids have been received for the proposed entrance stone wall and are currently under review. We hope to have the entrance wall completed by the end of summer.

Just a reminder that Baringer Hill in Cherokee Park will be closing soon for approximately one year in order to implement the final phase of the park restoration project. The project includes regrading and landscaping the hillside to reverse the erosion at the top of the hill, construction of bathrooms, a new overlook shelter ,new playground and parking improvements. All the activities that are currently enjoyed on Baringer Hill will be welcomed back at Baringer Hill upon completion of the project. During the construction Metro Parks is encouraging folks to explore and enjoy other areas in this 400 acre park. An Open House will be at the Cherokee Golf Clubhouse. Everyone is invited to stop by and view the plans for these area improvements.

Now is a good time to begin planning for a Block Party on your street. Block Parties are a great way to meet your neighbors, enjoy good food and music and maybe even meet your District Resource Officer from the Police Department. Our office has put together a Block Party How To packet?—with help from Peggy Schmidt. It includes a suggested timeline for getting everything in order to have a successful event. If you are interested in having a Block Party on your street or in the neighborhood, call our office at 574-3100 and request your Block Party How To packet.

As always, please call me at 574-3100 if I can be of assistance. We are here to serve you.
