TRASH IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Many people believe illegal dumpsites are the work of seedy individuals who pull up to a vacant lot in the dark of night and dump their trash. In many cases, that may be true. However, there are many law-abiding residents who, perhaps unknowingly, are illegally dumping old mattresses or construction material in their yards and expecting the City to clean it up for them. If this is you, be prepared for what could be a hefty fine. As part of a recently passed City ordinance, property owners will immediately receive a citation if they place unacceptable items out for collection or if they dump before or after a scheduled collection in their area. The citations could result in fines up to $2,000. If you have not received a brush collection notice, please call 311 to find out when your area is scheduled for collection. (We surveyed our area and wrote down the addresses for violating dumpsties. They are not going to be fined this time. But if trash appears there again, they will be given citations which could result in a fine.)
