Continue To Shine, by Debi Walter

mirror.jpg

It’s something we all use every day.   It helps us see ourselves the way others do, and helps us make necessary changes.   Mirrors can be found in each of our homes and most likely in every room.  They provide reflections of our selves as we get ready each morning in the bathroom.  Or they can be the framed and hung in our living rooms.  They can be used for vanity trays to hold beautiful perfumed bottles, or they can be used as a back drop to a wall sconce.

But did you know that mirrors can be like adding a window to a room that is lacking light?  If hung opposite a small window, a mirror reflects the incoming light thus doubling it’s lumination.  An amazing trick decorators have known for years!

In a similar way mirrors can be used in our hearts.  As friends, we can be like a mirror as well.  We can help our friends see themselves more clearly.  We can come alongside and help them change for the better, in the same way they can help us.

We can also reflect the light to a friend who is facing a especially dark time.  Smiling or providing the right encouragement may be all they need to remember things aren’t as dark as they seem.

These are challenging days for us, but we hope for a brighter tomorrow.  Now is a good time to encourage your neighbors in this regard.  Be a mirror to others and allow them to be the same for you.  Maybe this will make our neighborhood shine more than it ever has as we all make changes for the good.

Next month will mark 18 years we have called Lake Bosse Oaks home.  We’re grateful for you our dear neighbors.  May your light continue to shine!

"ARB" Wired, by Ken Barber

There have been a few inquiries regarding the back entrance on Lake Bosse Drive and Rundle Road. Most want to know if it will be improved or spruced up with more landscaping. As of now there are no plans to improve the entrance or to close it or to squeeze it down to an “exit only”.

In order to keep costs and dues down our priority is to first pay off the wall project.  Once we do we can start a new project to install irrigation and landscaping. However the back entrance will still look as beautiful as it does now with mulching and maintenance. In this tough economy some dues and assessments have been falling behind for some neighbors. The Board has agreed to stop spending on extra projects for now and to concentrate on maintenance, safety and neighborhood moral.

Meet Your Neighbor, by Gail Byrd

Brenda Gary, 4119 Greenfern Dr., is my best friend, and she gets me in all sorts of trouble, including this past Labor Day weekend.  We did the Trek Women's Triathalon at Disney’s Fort Wilderness.

This is something I would have never done on my own, not in a million years!  It entailed a half mile swim, a twelve mile bike ride, and a three mile run.  She pushed me to train, and surprisingly, we remained friends.

Seriously, she is a great friend who pushes me to try new things I would never do otherwise at the age of 43.

She is a true inspiration.

She is a great friend, wife and mother and now dons the title of Triathlete.

Within one minute of finishing this race she said "I think we could do a half marathon".

She has added years to my life and probably subtracted a couple days too.  Thanks Brenda for being such a great inspiration to me.  I am grateful to call you not only neighbor, but friend!

The Neighborhood Watch

Plans are in the works to re-enstate our Neighborhood Watch Program in conjunction with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, November 8th beginning at 6p. we will be having a neighborhood-wide meeting with Deputy Lan Page to go over all that is involved in starting-up this beneficial program.

40% of our residents are required to attend in order for the program to begin.  So we ask you now, to mark this date on your calendar and make it a priority for the good of our neighborhood.

This evening will explain how to best protect your property, and how to help your neighbor as well.  We will initiate a new Call List to report concerns and incidents of crime.  This program is sure to help our neighborhood in many ways.  Won’t you please do your part and attend?  After all, it is about time (see comic below).  :-)

National Night Out 2010 - We Had A Great Time...

...gathering together as neighbors to support such a great cause - Neighborhood safety.  We had a deputy from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on hand to welcome each neighbor and thank them personally for their willingness to come out in support of fighting crime.

Target, who is a National sponsor for this annual event, sent a team of four men to thank us and hand out gift bags to all in attendance.  We had two young ladies who used their creative skills to create beautiful posters in honor of our night:  Katie Kubik and Brooke Byrd.  Great job, ladies!  You can see their artwork on both sides of this article.

Publix donated our ice cream as their way of supporting our efforts for safety and community awareness.  This was our first attempt at taking part in this worthwhile event.  Next year we’re setting our sights on including the surrounding neighborhoods in an effort to help increase the sense of commuity and pride in living in this beautiful part of Orlando.  Thanks to everyone who took part - especially our very own President George Bush - impersonator who shared his own humor with all of us.

It was a great success.
