Best Wishes List, by Debi Walter
It had always been a desire of mine to write my grandmother’s story, but I wasn’t sure if I had the ability. That is, until one day in 1989 when I sensed I would indeed write this story, but not yet. I was prompted to begin by keeping a daily journal. It was to become my personal classroom - writing daily, the practice of putting words to paper. It was easy to write when I wasn’t afraid of who might read it!
For six years I continued with this private discipline when I was asked to submit an article for a local newspaper. Really? I couldn’t believe an opportunity like this had come. I submitted the article and was overwhelmed when I saw my work in print. It was one of those moments I’ll never forget. It gave me a new confidence that maybe my writing wasn’t just for me, and I would write my book.
A few years later I started The Lake Bosse Sun. It was my way of helping the Board communicate with the neighbors in a fun, yet informative way, and you liked it! This was quite unexpected, but it inspired me all the more.
In the midst of all this I was given a gift. This gift was in the form of the one who would become my writing mentor; a friend who happens to be a neighbor - Rob Swanson. About 7 years ago he started a writer’s group and month after month he taught us about the art of writing. A painter uses paint to create pictures on canvas - a writer uses words to create pictures in the mind. And Rob not only taught our group how to do this - he inspired, he encouraged, he corrected us - whatever it was we needed in the moment, he helped us to the best of his ability, and I am grateful beyond words.
In a couple of months the book I have longed to write will be published. It is a day I have prayed for, worked hard for, procrastinated over and have even been tempted to walk away from. But my grandmother’s story compelled me to finish the work I had begun. It most likely will never make the Best Sellers List, but it comes right from the top of my Best Wishes List. I could have never done this on my own - I would have quit long ago. But God gave me a special gift to help me complete the work He had for me. Who in your life has helped you accomplish things you could have never done otherwise? Why not purpose to thank them this Christmas season. Who knows? Your words may brighten their day when they need it most.

We recently watched this movie based on the life of Thomas Kinkade. It isn’t new - released in 2008 - so it is available on Netflix. It is a great movie to watch as a family. In fact, the article I wrote above was inspired by this movie as you will understand once you see it for yourself. Click the picture below to watch the trailer. Enjoy!

It is hard to believe that 2011 is nearing its end. As I was preparing for the Annual Home Owners Meeting in November, I reflected back at the accomplishments of the Board this year. Initially, I thought to myself, “What DID we do?”
Several accomplishments came to mind, but they just didn’t seem to amount to much, yet I remember being busy???
We were busy! Although the activities of the Board centered around several small projects this year, and compared to a project such as our “Wall”, the accomplishments may seem trivial, but they are anything but! Here are the main projects from 2011:
It takes a real team, we have a 10 member Board, who meets once a month, for one hour; that really isn’t a lot of time, and what that tells us is that, a lot of extra effort was volunteered to ensure Lake Bosse continues to shine.
I am so thankful to all of the Board Members for their time and efforts this year; it has been a pleasure to work with each of you. Additionally, we have two non-board members who, year after year, volunteer for Lake Bosse, a special thanks to Debi Walter and Kathy Turner.
As we turn the corner from Thanksgiving and head into the Christmas season, Lake Bosse will be celebrating in our traditional way with the Luminary Festival on December 23rd. I hope to see more homes than ever participate, (this is my favorite celebration, although winning the ‘Chili Cook-Off’ wasn’t bad either at our Fall Festival!).
Happy Holidays to All!!!

Never forgotten is the evening I drove into Lake Bosse Oaks and saw for the first time the dramatic display of luminaries wrapping the walkways of our beautiful neighborhood! What a memorable site it was.
There was more… the open houses where I enjoyed the company of our neighbors and where I created new friendships. Lake Bosse Oaks was transformed for one night and it was magical.
The excitement is just starting. I see a universe of bright lights, a wintry display of icicles, warm green and red lights, and Christmas trees peaking through the windows.
May everyone have a blessed New Year, and many thanks to the individuals who have worked towards beautifying our very special place we call home.
Warmest regards on behalf of the ARB,

It is with great excitement that Dale and Gail Byrd, 4128 Tall Tree Dr., announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan to Nick Reno. The two will wed on June 10, 2012. “We are so happy to be adding Nick to our family,” Gail added.

Rob Swanson, 4113 Tall Tree Dr., recently released his first novel, Do Angels Still Fall? It is an intriguing story that asks a question you may not have considered. But from the moment you open the front cover, you will be compelled to keep reading until the last page. This book would make an excellent Christmas gift for anyone on your list - the story appeals to all ages, and even invites family conversation on some important matters.
It is available on Amazon.com as both a book and kindle version. Here is a link to the book's website.
