The city of Ft.Collins' engineering department has (limited) funding to install sidewalks in areas where developers built neighborhoods before city sidewalk regulations were in place. The end result of this project will be a contiguous sidewalk from Lemay to Timberline, on the South side of Drake.
The LSHOA board of directors negotiated an agreement with the city, and granted an easement so the sidewalk can be placed in the greenbelt between Silver Creek and Parkwood Dr. The new city sidewalk will merge into the existing sidewalk & foot path.
In exchange for the easement, the city agreed to fund the planting of “replacement hedge” where sections of existing hedge will be removed in order to accommodate sections of the new sidewalk. 37 cotoneaster plants will be planted by the city at a cost of $1,000. In an effort to address the small size of the replacement hedge, the board is investigating the possibility of installing a 6’ cedar fence to reinforce both the new and old sections of hedge.
Also in exchange for the easement, the city agreed to replace a section of LSHOA’s asphalt footpath with 660 sq. ft. of concrete sidewalk ($6,500.) Currently, all of the asphalt foot path is overgrown with grass and is in need of replacement. After this project is completed, 1/4 of the 2,064’ asphalt foot path will have been replaced by concrete.
*Sidewalk will connect LSHOA to bike path and Drake crosswalk.
*Visibility at Parklake Dr. and Drake will improve.
*City will fund large sections of replacement hedge.
*City will fund some additioanl LSHOA greenbelt path replacement.
***Sidewalk will be closed for construction
