Lawton Heights/Zone 1 Neighborhood Watch

Keep Our Cops / Back The Blue

Oct 12, 2003

On June 20, 2003, the City Hall lawn was the scene of a first ever event when two hundred local citizens rallied to show support for the Lawton Police Department?’s officers, staff and support personnel.

The rally began in response to the announced retirement of Chief of Police Harold Thorne. After Chief Thorne took over leadership of the LPD, his concern for the citizens and his willingness to cooperate with the public had fostered a new relationship between the police and the people. But the groundswell of support influenced the City Manager and Chief Thorne to come terms.

After the retirement was postponed, we felt that the entire department needed to know that our support and appreciation extended to them as well. The expressions of support and appreciation flowed both ways as the officers and their families rallied with us.
