Lawton Heights/Zone 1 Neighborhood Watch

Summary of Executive Meeting - May 03, 2004

Opening and Committee Reports

Kay Ferrell called the meeting to order at 6:28pm.
Jake DeBusk led the Opening Prayer.

Chief Thorne took the floor to thank us for our continuing support and to apologize for staying away during the recent elections. He told us to call him if we have any questions. He had to leave early to get to Lincoln School for the first meeting of a new Watch Group.

Linda Baca read the minutes of the last meeting that were accepted without change.

There was no Treasurer’s Report.
Jake deBusk encouraged more people to patrol even if for shorter times. Since gasoline prices have risen so much, he suggested spending part of the patrol time at an observation point such as the parking lots at 13th and 14th between Cache Road and Lawton Avenue or in the drive at the warehouse on the 1500 block of Lawton Avenue. Gary brought up a patrolling issue. It seems that the working folks of the street are hanging around near the school bus stops before and after school.

Grace Morrow informed us that one couple on the Seniors Call List had moved to a nursing home and that one other was ill. She said that most of the seniors were excited about the upcoming picnic.

Business Items

The first item of business was the Neighborhood Picnic. It looks as though we are in pretty good shape on donations, volunteers, and activities. Henry Baca agreed to be in charge of music for the event. We will meet on Friday the 21st to layout the areas. A group of Marines have volunteered to help.

The Second Annual Keep Our Cops Rally Is scheduled for Saturday May 15th at 10:30am in front of City Hall. Several speakers have accepted invitations including Mayor John Purcell and Chief Thorne. Area radio stations have agreed to make PSA’s during the days before the event and the Lawton Constitution and KSWO have promised coverage. We will meet on Thursday 13 May, 6pm at Papa Louie’s to make rally signs.

Newsletters will be distributed on Sunday, May 16th.

Next Meetings

The next meetings will be:
General Meeting on May 17th
June 7th Block Captains Meeting.

Kay adjourned the meeting at 7:19pm.
