To use the term "playground" is "to conjure up images that aren't accurate," says Dick Roberts about the plans for the Commons Park play area. "We're creating lots of unique activities that represent what Denver was-and what it is."
The play area, which will most likely be completed in two or more phases and cover a 20,000 square-foot section of the park, strives to be an historically educational, but entertaining area for children. The following components are being considered for inclusion in the playground: sand and water play (complete with a dam, kid-activated
water and moving sand-chutes); buffalo and Bighorn sheep, dinosaur walk, mining section, Native American area, history markers and railroad tracks with a hand-operated car.
The playground will also include lots of climbing areas, a craw-through Moffat Tunnel and corral and saddles.
In addition to play areas, the park will host imitations of Colorado bugs, butterflies, and birds on poles set among the tall grasses of their native environment. For more information on how you can make this playground a reality,
