Annual Meeting…A Great Time!

Mar 27, 2000

"You know you're almost dead when they give you a welcome like that," opened keynote speaker David Gottleib at the LDDI Annual Meeting, Wednesday, February 23 at 6 p.m. at The Soiled Dove (1949 Market Street). Among tackling tough "unsexy" issues like transportation and affordable housing, Gottlleib pointed out changes in LoDo since he left in 1994 ("now the drunks have a much higher incomes") and recommended a time capsule ("put the current real estate prices, a copy of the Neighborhood Plan, something from LDDI, St. Charles and DDRO and the best martini you can find?…then bury it under 17th and Wazee and let the traffic shake it for 50 years").

Following Gottleib's presentation, Dunnigan Macllwaine and Dan du Bois presented the somewhat notorious Brick and Star Awards. The following were awarded the 1999 Brick Awards: Mattie's House of Mirrors (Preservation Brick for thoughtful development/renovation); Joe Dolan (Visionary Brick for the looking to the future); Senior Housing and The Barth Hotel (Good Neighbor Brick); Charles Calloway (True Grit Brick for preserving LoDo's nature); Linda Rankin (Thank You Brick); Bradford Publishing (Ancient/Pioneer Brick for being a long-time property owner) and Sloane Gallery, Mina Litinsky (Art Brick for supporting the Arts in LoDo). Recipients of the Star Awards, recognition for those who greatly contribute to LDDI, include Distinctive Properties, The Denver Post, Fox Sports Net, Hospitality Consultants, LoDo and Downtown Denver News, KEZW Radio, Kentwood City Properties, Norwest Bank, and Wells Fargo. Newly elected Board members were also named. See Committee Column on page 4 for a complete list.
