It has been many years since the heyday of train travel at Union Station. In 1971, most passenger rails were taken over by the federal government's Amtrack System, bringing an end to 75 percent of the existing passenger services.
The advent of the arrival of the Light Rail system at the station will mark the beginning of a new era to bring back Union Station as a hub of transportation for the city.
Let's plan a dedication ceremony that will reflect the same excitement of the future of the station. I'll bring the foil, just in case?….
Committee Column
While it's been something Membership Committee members have all brainstormed about, the LoDo VIP Card has now "evolved into an idea we can work with" says King Medlin who says the committee is working to finalize sponsors for the program.
According to King, the plan is to issue LDDI members a LoDo VIP Card with an expiration date coincidental with their membership renewal date. Cardholders would learn of discounts by reading a list that would appear in each month's LoDown. Then, they'd show their card to participating businesses to receive the benefits. "Ultimately, we'd use the presence of the cards around LoDo as a marketing tool for recruiting new merchants to LDDI."
Other tools for recruiting include the addition of a Membership Information Booth at every LDDI event. This booth will provide visitors with information about LDDI and becoming a member.
