Lower Downtown District, Inc.

Culture Around The Corner

May 12, 2000

"The End of History" has com to, yes, the historic district of Lower Downtown. According to Ron Judish of Ron Judish Fine Arts (located at 1617 Wazee St.), the gallery that will host the exhibit, "The End of History" implies "the re-definition of art in the 21st century. Not in terms of 'reinventing the wheel', but, rather, the breakdown of old terminology, the clich?© of 'isms', and the amalgamation of realism/abstraction. Boundaries are disappearing between mediums, nationalities, regions, definitions, processes and messages. The periphery is blurring, while the core issues are becoming universal. History is no longer lateral."
The exhibit will show works by Rebecca Alzofon, Alex Harrison, Heidi McFall, and Kate Petley and runs April 22 through June 3.
White history ends, the young begin. This month the Center for the Visual Arts (located at 1734 Wazee St.) will feature the work of the college's graduating art students in the Senior Honors Thesis Exhibition. These seniors were selected through the art faculty at the Metropolitan State College of Denver and include the college's most outstanding art students.
The exhibit will feature works in two-and three-dimensional media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, computer art, photography and sculpture. And, for those who want to invest in the young, most art works are for sale. The exhibit is held May 5 through May 27.
For exhibits continuing through May at LoDo galleries, see the calendar on page
