Lower Downtown District, Inc.

Make Transportation a Priority

Jun 15, 2000

The Lower Downtown Neighborhood Plan, submitted to the City on April 28, identifies a number of transportation and mobility initiatives, several of which are discussed in this special issue of LoDown, is key to achieving the goals of maintaining and enhancing a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly mixed use neighborhood.
LDDI has decided to make transportation initiatives a top priority among our 2000 objectives. Among other things, we want to complete fundraising for the neighborhood's financial commitment to the light rail spur, help bring the 16th Street Mall extension to fruition and encourage progress in the development of an intermodel transportation facility in Lower Downtown. And we want to make sure that the neighborhood's concerns are recognized in the myriad design, engineering and location decisions which each of these projects entails.
Much is at stake for Lower Downtown. These transportation projects-or our failure to realize them- will have a significant impact on traffic, parking and pedestrian use in LoDo. We have real opportunities to make a positive difference, and LDDI needs the support involvement of its members and of all concerned residents, businesses, property owners, and other stakeholders.
Get involved! If you are already an LDDI member, join a committee and lend your voice and energy. If not-or if you know others who are not-become a member; your membership dues and your active participation will grow LDDI's capacity to make a difference.
Support the light rail initiative. We need your financial contribution toward the $250,000 which Lower Downtown has contracted to raise as part of the private sector's commitment to the light rail spur.
