- Rich Sidowski advised that the Board had previously set aside reserves of $(?) in the Maintenance budget for storm water repair.
Storm Water Ponds
- Rich Hardin met with Bernadette and inspected ponds. She asked for ?“As Builts.?” Steve will try to locate these as will Bernadette. She scheduled formal inspection with county engineer for 5/2/08. Report should follow in 2-3 weeks. Issues of concern from informal inspection were:
o Back pond outlet higher than inlet (county may be responsible for fixing)
o Sediment in both ponds
o Grass should not be cut too short ?– leave a height of 6-9?” 10 feet from water
o Cattails ?– chemicals needed to kill long underground roots ?– takes 2-3 years
o Minor sediment around inlets and outlets
o Phragmites
- Keith from Countryside Nursery joined our meeting at 8:30 p.m. and reviewed status of ponds for the Board. He noted the following:
o He would permanently secure back pond (Joy Court) gate (free of charge) so it cannot be lifted off. He would make sure his employees know the combination of the gate lock.
o Confirmed outlet is 1.5?” higher than inlet; however, pond still functions properly. Keith believes that the county will repair pond (includes removing perhaps 50 tons of sediment). Estimates total cost would be tens of thousands of dollars.
o Front pond (Hope Court) will cost some money to get algae under control. Treatments needed every six (6) weeks. Treatment chemicals are very expensive, i.e. $260-280/treatment. Keith is certified for aquatic management. Phragmites (swamp grass) will take three (3) years to control. Spray in August-September when plants store sugar in their roots. Spraying at other times is wasting money. One month after spraying, vegetation needs to be removed. Outlet is tilted upward and needs to be fixed.
Next Board Meeting: Wednesday, 5/21/08 ?– 7:30 p.m. at Steve Rann?’s house
Meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
