Waste Management's (Phone Number 296-8297) garbage service provides for the following:
Curbside Pick-Up of Garbage Two Times Per week (for Sugarloaf -- Tuesday and Friday morning pick-up of garbage). In addition to garbage, furniture, bikes, lawnmowers (no gas or oil), etc., may be set out.
Curbside Pick-Up of Regular Yard Waste (Vegetative Debris Only) Once Per Week (for Sugarloaf -- Wednesday morning pick up of yard waste). Leaves, weeds, grass cuttings, branches, palm limbs, etc., less than four inches in diameter must be put in cans. Material is not to extend more than 1 foot above the top of the can or may be securely tied in 4 foot bundles. No metal ties. All cans or bundles must be under fifty (50) pounds. Plastic bags with vegetation in them will not be picked up as the yard waste is recycled.
Recyclable Material - Once Per Week (for Sugarloaf Friday morning pick up of recyclable materials). Green, brown, and clear glass bottles or jars (no lids). Plastic #1 and #2 (no plastic bags or lids). Metal and aluminum cans (lids may be tucked inside). All containers must be clean. Newspapers can be put in brown paper bags and placed on top of the blue bins. Household batteries must be placed in a clear plastic bag. Corrugated cardboard will be picked up, but must be flat. (Large pieces or large amounts of cardboard must be flattened and bundled -- contact Waste Management's office for pick up). All recyclable material should be placed inside the blue bins -- only blue bins will be handled. Additional bins are available at Waste Management's Office.
Appliances and Tires -- Contact Waste Management's Office for special pick up of these items. There is no charge for pick up of these items.
Oversize Yard Waste -- Large tree limbs or trunks of trees which exceed 7 inches in diameter must be cut to 6 foot lengths or less and placed curbside in an open area in one pile, away from low hanging trees or wires. Contact Waste Management for pick up.
In addition, Waste Management will pick up small or mixed size limbs that you do not wish to bundle or put into cans for a service charge of $35.00 per truckload. All limbs must be cut under 6 foot lengths and placed curbside in an open area away from low hanging trees or wires. Again, contact Waste Management for pick up. (This service does not include lot clearing.)
Hazardous Waste (car batteries, paint, acid, etc.) -- contact Monroe County Recycling at 292-4434.
Construction, remodeling, land or lot clearing debris will be picked up for a fee. Call Waste Management.
All cans and materials should be placed at curbside before 5 a.m. on pick up days. Cans must be removed from enclosure and freed of any restraint to can or cover. Garbage and Yard Waste Cans Must be standard, covered, plastic or metal containers, not over 32 gallon size. Cans over 32 gallon size and/or weighing over 50 pounds will not be handled. No homemade cans or drums. Cans must have usable handles. Badly rusted cans, cans with jagged or sharp edges and deteriorated plastic cans must be replaced.
