Madison Park Homeowners Association
April 8, 2002
We started our meeting off with a Neighborhood Crime Statistics Report by our new CMPD Community Police Officer Chris Lyon ~ 704.518.3064 (pager). Officer Lyon explained the report and told us a few points on how NOT to be the victim. The most notable incidents were burglaries from cars, followed by 2 thefts from out buildings. Next month he will also have the statistics on the south side of Tyvola Road.
Then we had a discussion on how often we need to do the flyers in the neighborhood in order to tell more residents about the Association. We talked about doing it for each meeting but unless we get more volunteers this will not be possible. At the present time once a quarter might be workable. Please let me Cheryl Furr 704.525.7434 (bfurr@carolina.rr.com) to become a volunteer to distribute the flyers.

The Neighborhood Symposium was April 12 and April 13. I went with Candace Armstrong and Leslie Michaels. The theme was "Neighborhoods That Work: Creating Models for the Future". The guest speaker was great, the workshops were very informative and meeting the city officials was a great help for our neighborhood. Our group decided that, "A model organized neighborhood is a mutual partnership that communicates and is responsive." The City of Charlotte is trying to find out what works in neighborhood with these twice a year programs. Interested in finding out how we faired? Let me hear from you and I will give you the answer.
We are scheduled for our input in the process of developing and implementing a new urban street design guideline for the city streets. This is scheduled for April 23, at 7 p.m.. We have material forthcoming on what is expected. Even our neighborhood can benefit from this project. Hopefully Budd Blume will be able to attend and fill us in at our next meeting.
Eric Stenstrom has made contact with the Neighborhood Link and we are now set up. Good going, Eric. Take a look at Madison Park Neighborhood Association. http://www.neighborhoodlink.com If you are interested in helping to keep the site updated please let us know. Eric is the owner! The city has really put some effort into this site and it is full of good information.
I am attaching a document that was the main part of our meeting ~ Developing our Goals. We divided into three groups and discussed what our goals would be for association. We worked with two questions and came up with the attached list. Please look over the document and add your input. For those of you who do not attend the monthly meetings we need YOUR help in keeping OUR neighborhood a great destination. If meetings are not your thing, then help by serving on one of the committees, attend our picnics, or send your e-mail back to me with comments on what you think the association needs to do. We are trying to make communication within our neighborhood a priority. What would you do if you had a loud barking dog? How about a vacant house that had a suspicious light on in it? Are you proud to live in a safe neighborhood? What would you do if all of a sudden the wooded area behind Marion Diehl became apartments? Or how would you find out how many people were living in a rental house. These are the questions that we are finding out. We want to make us a neighborhood that cares. Please find the time to care about your neighborhood by your interest in the Madison Park Homeowners Association.
