CHRISTMAS SOCIAL - Thanks to everyone that helped with the
Holiday/Christmas Social last month. We had several volunteers that helped
organize, set up and clean up. There help was much appreciated.
SIGNS & TRAFFIC ISSUES
Baker Street Stop Sign Request Denied?…..We needed 1000 vehicles & hit
approximately 800. Chip Gallup @ CDOT said he would count again in the
future if requested. Marty asked for help from City Council members,
Burgess, Fox, Mumford, and Lassister concerning this problem. He thinks
the current water line and light rail work on Tvyola and the numerous
cautions about detouring and potential heavy traffic limited the regular
number of vehicles on Tyvola this Holiday Season. Also Marty questioned
why we have to hit 1000 vehicles?…..by adding more vehicles the problem will
only increase!
Tyvola Road School Crossing 25 mph flashing Light. Light is
missing?…City unaware it was missing and said it would be given priority for
reinstallation. Telephone pole on North side of Tyvola was broken from the top.
Neighborhood Watch sign and No trucks without permit signs are missing
from Londonderry. CDOT is investigating what happen to them.
New Curbing for the Chan?’s 1900 Tyvola promised in next few months.
Probably summer time. Curb will be high vertical curb that will keep
vehicles from coming off Tyvola and crashing in their yard.
Tyvola and Wedgewood is the 2nd highest stop light camera running in
Charlotte?…over 3000 runners last year.
CROSS WALKS pedestrian signs are being installed now at Wedgewood and
Tyvola. Marty has been promised they will be operational very soon. (Lights/Walks are operational as of 1/8/06).
QUEENS UNIVERSITY SPORTS COMPLEX?…..overhead shots are on the web
Traffic Light will be considered when all 3 phases are completed at the
newest entrance off Tvyola. Updates can be found by following the link
from our website www.neighborhoodlink.com or directly at
www.queens.edu/sportscomplex/
Ted Peters mentioned how silt from the construction had overrun the
creek behind Keystone Court. Some of the neighbors noticed this & brought
it to the attention of the contractor. This saved the contractor a
potential fine of $15,000.
STREET LIGHTS
Currently, Marty is working with 2 requests for Street Lights at
individual locations. One is on Londonderry at 5301 and the other is the
first block of Seacroft on the South Side of Tyvola. This first block of
Seacroft down to Fairbanks has No Lights and has been victim to vandalism
twice in the last few weeks. One vehicle was shot in its driveway at 5200
Seacroft around Christmas Day. Marty also heard gunshots on this first
block just a few days prior to Christmas. Sandy Wise the Street Light
Coordinator for the City has responded that she will have Duke Power check
both locations to ensure lights can be added to the current telephone
poles. Once that has been done the immediate 4 homes adjacent to the pole
will need to sign the request petition. All these residents have stated
they would like the lights so it should be a done deal.
ID THEFTS
NC law requires police to take an ID THEFT Report now. If you want a 7
year warning statement that you have been a victim of attempted ID THEFT or
ID Theft on your credit file, you will need this Report. Otherwise you can
still have a warning placed on your file by paying 10 dollars to each of
the 3 credit reporting companies, Transunion, Equifax, and Experian. This
is new option under NC law. You also need to make a report with FTC on the
Theft or attempted theft.
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is August 1st, 2006?…?…We need to start thinking about
the event and how we can enhance it this year. WWW.nationalnightout.org is
the web site.
CERT Community Emergency Response Team programs
This program is being returned to the CITY of Charlotte. Marty had
received contradicting information including fees and cost. The program
WILL NOT cost if we participate. The city said they would send Marty
information as soon as they get reorganized on the program.
TREASURY REPORT by Dee McCandlish
Dues are now 15 dollars for the Year! This is per household not
individually to join. We have no outstanding bills to pay. There are 59
paid members and $382.51 in the bank. Candace Armstrong a member urged residents to pay their 15 dollars so that Marty our President could continue to get things done for the neighborhood!
GARDEN CLUB will be meeting Monday, January 16th at the home of Judy
Bratton. Judy's address is 5828 Murrayhill Rd. The topic this month will
be HERBS. Come & learn!
WELCOME to our new members & attendees! Several first time attendees joined Madison Park HOA after the meeting.
NEW BUSINESS/CONCERNS
BOOKS TO NEW ORLEANS - John Olsakovsky, our Vice-President, is taking
a truckload of books, puzzles & games to restock a newly constructed
library in Mississippi. If you would like to contribute, contact John at
(704) 307-2395, wireless # is (704) 577-4512. John's address is 5217
Londonderry Rd. He said that all reading levels are needed: elementary
through high school. He'll be leaving for Gulf Port on February 6th.
PARK ROAD PARK is scheduled for improvements to be completed around
March or April. The lake had been drained but has since filled back up on
its own. It is expected to cost over a million dollars for these
improvements.
BRADBERRY CONSTRUCTION over the creek could last up to 6 months. What
an inconvenience! Hopefully, the flooding problem will be corrected.
Residents were reminded to CAll 311 to report problems such as parking in yards, trash cans left in front yards or at the curbs. 311 can handle any City or County related questions or direct you to the proper department. 911 is for current ongoing emergencies.
Our meeting was adjourned.
