The meeting was called to order by Marty Doss, President, at 7:30 pm

Officer Hairston from the Westover Division gave the criminal activity within Madison Park: Officer Hairston brought a new officer with him that will be working in our community. Officer Gene Lim.
2000 Tyvola Rd. Robbery
4716 Gilmore Drive. Breaking & entering
4829 Murrayhill Rd. Breaking & Entering this was home where the front door was kicked in and one of two dogs was shot dead! The residents were inside during the break in.
5100 Murrayhill Rd. Hit and run. Vehicle struck
608 Cooper Dr. Breaking & Entering
4442 Halstead Dr. Larceny
5054 Baylor Dr. Breaking and Entering
708 Penway Ct. Theft from motor vehicle.

Officer Del Duca from the South Division- no criminal report. This is the South Division?’s last report. Madison Park now falls under the Westover Division. Thank you to Officer Woodlief and Officer Del Duca for all of their hard work

Suggestions from Officer Hairston and Officer Del Duca for preventing crime in our neighborhood:
- Make sure to keep a copy of all serial numbers from your electronics. Pawn shops have to record serial numbers on electronics.
- Be sure to lock your car, and do not keep anything valuable in the car. To a criminal, loose change can quickly add up for drug money
- If something doesn?’t seem right, call the police.
Marty Doss then led the meeting:

All way stop signs have finally been installed at Cooper and Baker, and Chedworth Dr and Seacroft. This was done by petition. Debra Campbell helped Marty one day with the Cooper and Baker petition. It took 4 trips around the petition zone to reach all the residents. We had more than enough signatures for both petitions. Hopefully these new stop signs will curb cut-through traffic and decrease speeding.

The stop sign at Glenham at Cooper has been replaced by a larger more visible sign. This sign can now be seen from Tyvola.
Marty suggested in the future that petitions be done during Spring, Fall, and Summer in order to have longer daylight. It is hard to reach people working during the week when it is getting dark so early.
Street Light Petition:
Marty worked with Matt Magnasco to collect signatures along Murrayhill and White Oak to increase the street lights. Some residents in the 5700 and 5800 block of Murrayhill Rd do not want the new street lights, but the rest of Murrayhill Rd seemed excited about the lights. There were a few homes on in the 5800 block that had placed no street lights signs on their doors the day that signatures were collected for the 25% portion of the initial petition process. Those homes were not approached. Marty reported that 100% of the residents that came to the door on his side of the street signed the petitions for the lighting plan. The signatures have now been sent to Sandy Wise of CDOT for review. Update on 1/9/07 Matt Magnasco reported that Sandy Wise has requested Duke Energy create lightning plan for these streets.

Election news: Our elections were held in the Nov 06 meeting. Lars Hedenborg was going to run for treasurer, but withdrew his name after the meeting. A motion was made and seconded to accept Lars withdrawal from treasurer. A motion was then made and accepted to accept Dee McCandlish as the treasurer for 2007. There was no one opposed to the either of the above motions. Lars was not present at the meeting.

South Blvd Storm Drain update:
Some residents have had issues with the lack of apparent progress on the Storm Drain work and road closures. Andy Dulin has stayed on top of these issues. The work never completely stopped, but did slow down due to utility line work that needed to be done. The work is now scheduled to be wrapped up in Aug 2007.

Water Pressure problems:
Ingrid Lachner reported a water leak and water pressure problems on Brockbank. She and her neighbors stayed on this by calling 311 to get the problem fixed.

Parks and Recreation has a new Director. Jim Gargus will start Feb 1. He is from Cincinnati, OH

Tom and Kathy Miller had reported that the natural buffer area at Marion Deihl is being damaged by standing water that is damaging the roots and trees in the buffer. John McClelland, Parks and Recreations Manager South Division reported on 12/24/06 that repairs have been made to improve the problem.

Vivian Moose reported that 842 Woodlawn continues to be a problem. The home is not being maintained and problems with things such as leaving trash cans at the curb week after week are not being addressed. Both Andy Dulin and Susan Burgess both told codes to check this out. The cans were removed the next day. This home has numerous housing code violations.

Marty is also going to send a letter to codes about the home at 1813 Tyvola Rd. The house was foreclosed on in the spring. At first it appeared that the new owners were going to work on the house. All work has now stopped and widows are boarded up or broken. The roof is damaged as well. Residents had requested the home be checked out to Marty when he was working on the All stop petitions. Update the petition to have this home inspected was sent to Neighborhood Development on 1-9-07.

The holiday social was a big success. Thanks again to Eudora Alston, Dianne Gunter, Ingrid Lachner and Sue Valentine-Plyler for their hard work.

Satellite dishes:
Mark Griffin with the City zoning reports that most residents are quick to remove illegally placed dishes in our community. If you want to report an illegally placed dish, Marty suggest using the online 311 form and choosing the zoning issue from the drop down box. You cannot place these dishes in front yards or side yards of homes located on corner lots. Craig Harmon, President of Starmount reported to Marty that Starmount is having problems with these dishes as well.

1900 Tyvola Rd had the new vertical curbing installed. This should keep cars from crashing into the front yard of the home.

The 2007 Neighborhood Symposium will be held on March 31 at The Charlotte Convention Center. The theme is Neighborhoods in Action: Mobilizing, Organizing and Sustaining Success. Everyone is encouraged to sign up for the symposium.

Treasurer Report:
We have 43 paid members with $812.24 in the bank. The 2007 dues are $15 per household. You can pay your dues in person at the meetings or send them directly to Dee McCandlish at 812 Fairbanks Drive, Charlotte NC 28210

Vivian Moose encouraged residents to take action on damaged trees. She had a neighbor?’s tree that fell knocking down her electrical meter. The neighbor?’s tree cost Vivian 2500 dollars in repairs. If you have a neighbor with a tree that is damaged send them a letter requesting they take care of the tree. Also for your protection take pictures of the tree. Hopefully your neighbor will take action when they are alerted to the problem. This way you will have proof that you alerted the resident of the problem in case the tree causes damage to your property.

Debra Campbell reported that her computer is not working properly. Members are encouraged to visit the web site at www.neighborhoodlink.com 28210 Madison Park to read the minutes. We are working on a back up e-mail list.

The Cravens asked if Marty knew how long it would take to get the individual street light installed. They had submitted a petition in Dec. 06 requesting the individual street light on Glenham. Marty said that is takes longer than the stated time frame on line at CDOT. In the past it has taken 8-11 months to get the lights up. Hopefully the timeline will move closer to the stated 60-90 days. Update Cravens reported to Marty on 1/9/07 that they had received the initial letter back from CDOT stating that Duke would be taking a look at their request. The time frame was 30-90 days. This is standard to what has happened in the past with individual request.
