There was a cost of $75 to attend if you pre-registered. Marty learned from Mary Beth Fields the President of Sedgefield that you can apply for a simple scholarship on the city website. Please read the attached letter from one neighborhood leader for more information. Go to www.housingcharlotte2007.org and find Scholarships and submit for one. Registration must be completed by Friday, Feb 16th. This issue should be of great importance to everyone, but especially those of us living near South Boulevard and the light rail line. We can request a scholarship for two people through our HOA name.

Street lights Murryhill and White Oak
Matt Magnasco reported from Sandy Wise from CDOT that the plan for new street lights on Murryhill should be ready to present to the neighborhood perhaps in March or April

Queens Sports Complex updates Lamar Gunter
From Mallory Benz, Queens University:
?“The contractors are still working on the scoreboard and the parking lot lights. They should be complete in a couple of weeks.

Last month, Queens hired the architect, Jenkins-Peer Architects, to design the Press box and the Field House. They will also be designing the base for the Lion Sculpture and a sign for the front entrance. We also hired the civil engineer, Birkie Ayer, to design the parking lot and service road as well as the entire water & sewer infrastructure. We also hired the electrical engineer, United Engineering, to design the power, telephone, data and cable TV services. It is our intent to start construction on the Press box, the Lion Sculpture base, the entrance sign. the parking lot, the service road and the underground utilities this Spring?—probably April. We are holding off construction of the Field House until we complete our fundraising.

The Athletic Department began their Lacrosse season last Saturday, so the competition field is in full use again.?”

Road Hump Request on Longwood
Terry VonCannon from CDOT e-mailed on 1/30/07 to say he had received a request for speed humps on Longwood. The street would have to reach the 1000 count.
Marty requested the count take place. The road is not suitable for all ways stops. The speed limit to was lowered to 25 and Marty requested more speed limit signs go up if possible. Marty does not think the road will ever reach the 1000 vehicles required for humps.

South Blvd. Storm Drain Work
Duane Grove, a resident that lives in the effective zone has worked with the City, Andy Dulin, storm water services and the contractor to get the Ferebee container removed from a neighbor?’s yard, and a large hole that the neighbors felt was a danger filled in. This project work is all scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2007. (Moved up from Dec )

Open Discussion New Business/Concerns/Issues:

Judy Bratton asked about the abandoned house in the 5700 block of Murryhill. Marty said a petition could be sent to code enforcement. The owner of the home is incarcerated. Officer Hairston checked the home on Tuesday 13th and suggested that the house be turned in for code enforcement.

Lamar Gunter is on the ?“Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful?” committee. He suggests that everyone email our city council or call 311 when we see bad litter on the side of the road. By reporting the problem, we are putting heat on the officials to get roads cleaned up.

A couple of residents pointed out that there?’s a new sign on Burnley Rd: ?“No CMS school buses beyond this point?”. CDOT has reported they do not know where the signs came from and stated they will be removed if they are in the right a way. Yves Olshausen, Principal of Smith Language Academy, had no knowledge or reason for the signs to be up. The signs are at all three entrances to the Burnley Road. CDOT does not install signs on the backs of other signs. Two of these signs are on the backs of stop signs and one under a yield.

Ted Peters asked about Councilmember Susan Burgess. After surgery for cancer, she is back at work.

Welcome to all new members
